What do y'all think about joining Players clubs for comps? I don't live to close to any casinos so I usually join thinking that I probably won't be back for a while. The most I bet is $25-$100 range in SD or DD games. It would be nice to be able to play whenever I wanted. I'd probably play way to often if we had BJ in Atlanta, although the extra money would be nice.
Even if you play only a few times a year at a place, it might be worth it to be rated (you should be able to get atleast meals with your betting level). I always give my players card when I sit down to play (I count), but I don't give my card when I am Wonging. Think of it this way, if you play basic strategy (say a -.5% expectation) at $25 a hand for 100 hands (2 hours at full table) you are expected to lose about $12.50. I meal comp pretty much wipes that out .
For a great many counters your comps are the only thing you'll ever get back from the game at all. This is a direct impact on the bottom line. Comps, casino promotions, free tournaments, match plays, etc, are dollars in your pocket without additional financial risk. Take them.
realize that if you are planning on getting serious about card counting. You are going to run into a brick wall eventually in my opinion. You may have to take other avenues if you know what I mean. Basically, it'll catch up to you. If you are just a red chipper, don't worry about it and definitely get one.
Those who are serious learn how to get around problems. You will get barred with or without comps. Take the comps at all levels. When you reach high levels you will get $500 match plays and free bets, free air fare and reimbursements, invitations to high roller tournaments, etc.
