Players Club

Hello,

I went through CBJN, taking note of the best BJ conditions, and got a players club card for each casino. I'm currently playing $3 games while I master my BS and slowly incorporating the Red 7 count while trying to stay focused in a casino environment.

Since I don't have enough action to really get rated, and I understand slot and video poker players often receive decent mailings, I was planning on dumping some amount of money in Video Poker so I can at least keep my name alive in their system and start receiving mailings and hopefully some decent offers. My goal isn't to make a living at BJ but rather put enough action in play to receive room comps or discounts, match plays etc.

My question is: Is this a good approach? Is there a recommended amount of VP action that will trigger some decent mailings? If it requires action of say $50 or more I'll have to re-evaluate this idea and probably use that money at the tables and worry about establishing myself in their database once I start playing red/green.

    I don't know the answer to that one either, but used to wonder about following the same approach (using 9/6 JOB vidpoker to trigger comps).  wizardofodds.com has 3 BS strategies for 9/6 JOB (EV= around break even).  There're probably some other strategies for other variants of VP.  I might look at his site again to see if there's one for 8/5 JOB, as that's all that's around here.  It's a shame I can't see any Blackjack tables from where the bank of VP machines is, 'cause that's the only way that it's worth it in my particular case.

    This answer's probably wrong (it's been awhile) but, I think it was 1 comp point per dollar in the machine.  So for a three line quarter machine that'd be $0.75 per hand, I guess.  I decided that since I can't watch the card tables from the VP banks, to play poker instead.  The stores near here only require several hours of rated NLHE play to earn enough for a buffet.  For probably triple those hours, I can get a buffet and a room during the week if they have available space.  So, it's way better EV (but more risk) for earning comps.

    I kept the BS strat that I was learning as wallpaper on a phone (for reference) and just used a couple of apps to deal hands until I had the strat memorized.  Very boring, I imagine, after several hundred hours of break even play (unless you get lucky & hit a royal flush) but the comps are probably worthwhile.  If the VP banks were closer to the BJ pits around here, I'd have kept at it.

    I think WOO's site (or some other site that I forget the URL to) has strat cards that'll fit in a cig pack.
