Hmmm, that's an interesting question. The increased penetration of course offers more oppurtunities for extremities in the count and a higher EV. However, the increase of %66 hands/hr by going to the 1.5 deck pen will increase your overall win rate. Using a 1-10 spread, Hi-Lo, I18, Fab-4, and BJstats.com BJcalculator, I got an EV of 0.83 on the high pen and 0.60 for 1.5 pen. And, using the income calculator from the same site with consistent bankroll and game, the income increase from 1.5 to 1 deck was 11.17 to 22.50. This is much larger than the %66 gain from the extra hands per hour.
However, look into different options that can help you in the high pen game. For instance, look into multiple hands, etc.
Three players at the table, plus the dealer. That's 10.8 cards per round. With the deeper-penetration game, the dealer is dealing 648 cards (60 * 10.8) per hour. With only one deck cut off of a 6-deck shoe, he's dealing ~2.5 shoes per hour (648 / (5 * 52)). That improved pen (half-a-deck deeper) lasts for only 26 cards. Since you'll see that improved pen only 2.5 times per hour, that's 65 cards worth of improved pen. Since there are ~10.8 cards in a hand, that's only 6 hands per hour for you at the improved pen.
I have a hard time believing you can improve your average earnings by 66% per hour with just six hands.
It all depends if you want to win more with more risk, or win less with less risk.
For example, let's assume a bank of $50,000, and a trip bank of $10,000, 10 hours of play. The fixed paramter we choose is to bet at half Kelly (approx 1.83% for the $50,000 bank). Spread 1-12. Wong out at TC -1. Hi-Lo.
A quick calculation on BJRM (highly recommend you buy this wonderfool tool at $75) tells you that game 1 (deeper pen) is rated at a DI of 6.82, whereas game 2 is infoerior at 5.27 because of the worse pen.
Your unit on game 1 will be $50 and $30 on game 2. (If you want to use the same unit, then your risk will vary, that's why you need to set more parameters to compare the two games).
Trip report tells you that game 1 at 60 hands per hour has 71.75% expectancy of winning $2,000 and your trip ROR is 2.34%. game 2 at 100 hands per hour has only 65.83% of reaching that same $2,000 goal, but at a much lowere TROR risk of 0.65%.
I would choose game 1. But if my TROR is ridiculously low, I would go with game 2.

According to www.bjstats.com, the SCORE for 1.0 penetration with a 1-12 spread is 25.34, but because only 60 rounds/hour it's really (25.34)(0.6) = 15.20. This is better than the SCORE for 1.5 penetration, which is 13.58. (Note that RSA was not part of the calculation.)
Penetration gives one a greater assessment of the ratio of tens to low cards.
One could do Thorp's idea of double-up/matingale IF the count stays reasonably high; shuffling will neutralize this most of the time!
But I have to admit, even though some counters want many more hands due to a faster dealer and less talking and stalling the game, I like slow dealers where counting can be as exact as possible. fast dealers wear me out!
But penetration semms to be greatest among novice dealers and worst among Asian women or some older established dealers.
Asians seem to be more loyal to the casino by shuffling early in SD when a few too many lil cars show.
It's been said on this board, 'that American Born asians aren't as bad'; but I'm not sure I buy this.
From personal observation, I think they are about the same as other dealers and do not fit in the typical asian female classification. Found some good, some bad and two are on my super pen list for trips to Vegas and one on my list for Cal Indian places.
Hey, perhaps they are third or fourth generation. All I know is that they deal a good game.
I think if you're a true wonger, speed and pen are not as important as freedom to table-hop.
