Anyone play regularly at the Palms?
I'm wondering how the action is there, and how generous they are to giving comps in general to green and black chip players, so compared to the Rio?
The Palms is much more generous than the RIO. Games are lower limits and staff much friendlier. You can request a non-smoking table if desired and the overall atmosphere is much better, positive than the RIO.
Rio, since it became a Harrah's property, has one of the worst comp formulas around. The only places as stingy are the Aztar properties (Tropicana) and the real low-down grind joints.
the rio dd sucks.the mirage properties were much better before mgm.the fiesta was better before stations.
when you say, ALL the games. For instance, Bellagio still has decent (not great) BJ, even though it is under the MGM Mirage umbrella. Harrah's and their casinos have sucked for many months, if not years.
for my wife and me instead of a place on the Strip. Does Palms have $5 blackjack on weekdays with decent rules and some full pay VP, either JOB or Deuces?
H17, 4.5 to 5|6, LSR, Lucky Ladies side bet. They have been a bit sweaty lately, but I spread 30-1 for 1.5 hours, then left after a good shoe. That was this morning.

$5 shoes are available, and there are plenty of f/p VP machines. I like the beds at the Palms!
As opposed to early surrender, where you can surrender before the dealer checks for a blackjack.

Given the financial issues at Harrah's in general, and the Rio specifically, the Palms is somewhat better. Both have decent games, but the minimums are marginally less at the Palms for the same level of comps. The suites are slightly better at the Rio though, and the Rio buffets and restaurants are better, although the Palms definitely is trying hard. The Palms mexican restaurant is better than the one at the Rio, but the other restaurants at the Palms are marginally poorer than the Rio, and there is no restaurant that can compare to either Buzio's or Voodoo Cafe.
Both casinos are actively barring counters, so camouflague is a necessity at $50 per hand and up.
