The Palms...
...rates a 10 on the sweat-o-matic scale.
One method of play at such places is a bit risky variance-wise. You bide your time until the shoe gets very positive - maybe spreading 1-4 during the build-up, but not directly with the count and sometimes reducing your bet when the count improves. The point of all this is to give the illusion that you are betting randomly.
When a shoe gets really hot you make your move and place your bets according to the count - these would be your 8x, 10x or even 20x bets. After 3 or 4 hands, or when the count drops back to normal levels, and no later than the end of the shoe no matter what, you take your leave. Hopefully, unless you got some really bad cards during the positive part of the shoe, you're up 10 or 20 betting units.
You cash out and head for the exit as quickly, yet nonchalantly, as possible and don't return for a couple of months. If you've played for 45 - 60 minutes and the shoe never got hot, leave anyway.
One drawback is that leaving while you're "on a hot streak" can draw attention. I've had ploppies question me out loud on why I was leaving just when I was getting hot. Have an excuse prepared for this like your SO is waiting for you or that you've dropped a couple of thousand in two days and want to hold on to some of your winnings.
