One vs. two deck games

I have an upcoming trip planned to a casino where the tables are often crowded. Is it better to play at a one-deck game with two other players (three hands total) or at a full two-deck table (six hands)? Both are H-17 and the one-deck with no double after split.

I am assuming that the single deck game pays 3:2 on blackjacks, and has at least the rule of six when it comes to penetration. Based on that assumption, and further assuming the same max bet in both games, then the single deck game with two other players is better from an EV point of view if you are playing all hands. There may be other things to consider, such as casino tolerance, wonging possibilities, flashing dealers, and the penetration available at the two deck game, but in general terms, crowded tables should be avoided. This is especially true in pitch games, whether one deck or two.

Bootlegger, thanks for the information. Your assumptions are correct about the nature of the one-deck game there. I just find the play difficult when I only get three deals when there are three other players. Often by the time I'm ready to really go on the attack, the deck is finished. Any special strategy you would suggest when, like this case, you only get three deals. Further question, would you agree that three other players (four total) is unplayable in the one deck game? Try playing two hands off the top to see if you still get 3 rounds. If so, this is a good single deck game. You can always drop down to one hand if the deck goes sour. Also, if they allow spreading to two hands mid-deck, try it on the last round to see if the dealer shuffles up. If the dealer keeps dealing, this is a nice option in plus counts when playing one hand.

Frenchman had some good suggestions. A one deck rule of six game with three players isn't great, but it's playable. In addition to Frenchman's suggestions, you must remember that you have to get the money out. I wouldn't recommend fooling around with cover bets like not increasing your bet after a loss or only doubling your bet after a win. Get it out when the count calls for it.

Four players in a rule of six single decker is not a good game.
