Newbie questions and tips

hello all my name is Bruno and im from Connecticut.. i have been playing casino blackjack for about 5 years now and even though i have had some good wins using basic strategy i have also had some great losses. i am now looking to further my skills with card counting to make me a better player. first off i usually attend Mohegan resort and casino is Uncasville Connecticut since it is the closest for me. im pretty sure they use a 8 deck shoe at most of the tables but i can be mistaken. if anyone knows for sure please inform me/us. has anyone here played at this casino? what did u think? were you profitable? after doing some reading and looking over the lessons i have a general idea of the hi/lo method and how to calculate a true count but it just seems almost impossible to be able to keep tract and focused at a casino table with all the distractions. how practical is counting cards really? i have seen many "BJ secret" type books and programs online but do these things really work? any tips for a newbie ?? thanx in advance..Bruno

p.s. does positioning at a table matter? it may be just by chance but i always have had better luck sitting in the middle facing the dealer instead of being at 1st or last base..

Without counting you will lose your money. You may win sometimes but the house has the edge in the long run and relatively short term you will lose because you are playing witha disadvantage and will lose more than you win. get wong's professional blackjack and blackbelt in blackjack by Arnold Snyder. You should join green chip and remember you can't go by feel unless the decision is equal based in the count. You can also learn online @ www.gamemasteronline.com for free, it is also on link at the top of your screen under blackjack school. After that you should invest in software.

Lots of hot girls with jeans and no, you know what on underneath. I won close to 1k there at one point but left up 1k for the night there and at Foxwoods. My suggestion would to play at the high limit room in foxwoods and spread 1-4 and leave the table at -1. A few dealers give decent pen at Mohegan but they are not always there and the place is so crowded. Go to Vegas or Reno and sign up for CBJN. BTW if you do not want to take my advice at Mohegan second base is the best place to sit because it is easier to see the cards and the discard rack. Third base sucks because the glass is tinted on the discard rack. I almost got into a fight with somebody there because the floor gave away my spot when I got a call from "Mr. Wong out". The guy said I'm playing 2 spots but I saw only one hand at the table. Like he or anybody could stop me from doing anything. Michael Jordon's sucks big time, I got sick. I remember the last time I had it the food was horrible too. The only reason I went back was because this attractive girl suggested it. Everything about that place is trash for the most part. The employees, the clientle, penetration, comps, girls. There don't "take care of you". The next time I'm at a casino and someone wants to jump in mid shoe i will accidently spill a drink on them after I tell them no no bad and they still sit down and try to play. If they try to attack me I'll
kill them.

Yes and no. In terms of sitting in the most "lucky spot", all are just as lucky as the other. There is no such thing as luck. The cards fall at random to everyone, even the dealer. For betting purposes, the count is equal on all positions. Maybe you do better in the middle of the table because; 1 You have more time to think of your playing decisions more so than does first position. 2 You may be making some of your decisions based on the fact that you are seeing more of your neighbors cards on both sides of you. 3 By pure hapenstance you have had more positive variance sitting in mid field.

If you are intimidated by other players, third is not the place to be because of the heightened scrutiny from the other players and even the dealer sometimes. Thus, making your decisions other than that which is best for you.
