I'm just getting started in the BJ game. Have read several books, but have only gone in two casinos. I would appreciate any information about the games near St. Louis. Specifically, rules and minimum table limits for:
President Casino in St. Louis, MO
Ameristar Casino in St. Charles, MO
Harrah's St. Louis in Maryland Heights, MO
Casino Queen in East St. Louis, IL
Argosy's Alton Belle in Alton, IL
Casino Aztar in Caruthersville, MO
Harrah's in Metropolis, IL
For what it's worth,
I went into the President casino in St. Louis, and payed $2 for the privilege of getting an ID card to look around. All games were 6-deck, H17, and noDAS. Most used the King CSM, but a couple of tables were dealer-shuffled. Most tables had a device built in to perform the peek for 21 without the dealer looking. I also noticed all the shoes had a small silver area at the mouth that almost looked like a worn-out spot on the surface. Is this some kind of monitoring device? I didn't play at this casino.
Next I went to Casino Queen on the Illinois side of the river. No ID required here. All games used shuffle machines with one shoe being shuffled while another shoe was in play. The rules here were 6-deck, S17, DA2, DAS. I didn't find out if resplitting was allowed. I played a couple hours at a $2 table (please don't laugh), and the penetration was 50% to 60%. The player's cuts had to be at least one deck from either end of a fresh shoe. The dealers and pit crew I observed seemed to be there for the job only and not due to any love, or knowledge, of the game. I was somewhat suprised at my overall comfort level at this casino. I had the feeling I could earn some $ there if I get my skills developed. Maybe wishful thinking.
I made two plays that caused some ire from others at the table. I split 10's against the dealer's 5. I know this is against BS but I drew and Ace and then an 8, and the dealer busted anyway. Later, I took a hit on my 12 against the dealer's 2. The same players complained. I told them that was the correct play, collected my chips, wished them good luck, and left.
One more issue that I would appreciate input on:
If I spend a lot of time in the casino at the $2-$5 tables due to my inexperience and cash-poor situation, do I run the risk of being recognized quicker if I ever do pose a 'threat' to the casino?
Thanks in advance,
