In Europe, there is never a problem in playing off another's hand.
In fact, you have maximum 3 bets allowed for EACH HAND.
I know some players who use this only on their hand witch give them the possibility of doubling for less.
For example, they put 2 bets of 1 unit just for their hand and,
when they have to double, just decide to double one or both bets.
I know this is not the right way to play for doubling but
there is another situation where we put more money on the table also
when we have not the edge ...
'The Logic of Pair Splitting
There are three reasons why it would make sense to split a pair instead of standing or hitting. You should opt for pair splitting when:
1. You will gain more money on average (bold strategy)
2. You will lose less money on average (defensive strategy)
3. You turn a losing hand into a winning hand (offensive strategy)'
(Taken from Henry Tamburin article.)
For example imagine when playing a big bet you receive 8,8 vs dealer 9
you should split (defensive strategy).
If you have only a big bet, this means 2 times a big bet in a bad situation.
Now if you bet 1 unit and (BIG BET -1) units , this mean you are
able to split just for the first bet (1 unit)
witch mean your big bet become 8 vs dealer 9 and this for just
the cost of 1 more unit in play.
In another word, you are able to perform all defensive
split and this just for 1 unit.
In some casino, the highest bet control the hand but this is
not the rule in most place in European casino.
now some questions:
1) witch BS deviation should be used for the splitting strategy
with the standard 6 decks European blackjack?
example :
what about 8,8 vs 16 with (early)surrender available ?
surrender all or split for 1 unit ? etc.
2) how much all these strategy influence the house edge ?
thanks for your opinion.
