Cute security girl found it while wanding me. 28K. She made sure there were no explosives in it then asked me what I was doing Friday night. It was funny.
She noticed the belt when wand detected of all things, the magnetic strips on casino player cards in my front pants pocket (which I usually never use and normally keep in my luggage if I carry any). One thing led to another, I had a golf shirt on which was on the short side, I raised my arms to be wanded and she noticed it. Strips in this amount of bills, all 100s, did not set off any detectors which were on pretty high sensitivity.
does not set off metal detectors...it's an Urban Legend that it does. I have been thru airports where a single dime coin will set off the alarm, but $30K did absolutely nothing. I've also had a bundle of $20K wanded and even directly touched by the wand with no buzzer going off.
Perhaps a suitcase full of money will set off some kind of alarm, but I doubt it.
will show up on the xray machine (just like a book or magazine will) Paper, plastic, metal, etc all show up with different shading/colors. I don't think I'd just put $25K in a bag and run it through a machine. You should always keep your money on your person.
