Foxwoods on New Years Day
On New Years Day, Foxwoods is usually pretty quiet from 4AM to 1PM. On New Years Eve, all hotel rooms are 'taken' by the casino promotions department for 'Invitation Only' bookings by high-rollers (in all disciplines - BJ, Craps, Slots, Poker, etc.) in conjunction with various 'Invitation Only' parties at the casino. 'Invitations' usually include buffet breakfasts starting at 9 AM the following morning in various casino function rooms. A majority of the players left in the casino after 4 AM are the high-rollers who have casino hotel rooms and are usually slow to return to the tables on New Years Day - doing breakfast, packing, and even check-outs (noon-time) before starting to play again. Most of the 'Invitation Only' players from New Years Eve are gone by 6 PM.
Exception are the Asian players who use the opportunity for uncrowded playing conditions to continue playing. Around 11 AM, Poker players start arriving. Around 1 PM, players in other disciplines start trickling in. New hotel guests start arriving at 3 PM. Since New Years Day is on Wednesday and Thursday is a work-day for most people in the Northeast, the evening crowd on New Years Day will, probably, be moderate and not heavy after 7PM.
The majority of Foxwoods dealers work 4AM-Noon, Noon-8 PM, or 8PM-4AM, your best opportunity for heads-up play or 1 or 2 players on a table will be when a main shift changes occur. Limited numbers of dealers flow-in one-hour before and one-hour after the major, shift break, especially in holiday cycles. Foxwoods usually has good control of their table games and prefers 50%-100% table occupancy to empty tables or tables with only 1 or 2 players, except when approaching a major shift change, when they will hold empty tables until after the shift change. If there is no action after the shift change, they release dealers who started the previous shift one-hour late and close tables to reach their desired table occupancy.
