Where can I find the best information for modifying/optomizing the KO strategy for single deck play? I am looking to maximize the number of hands won and keeping the bet spread as low as possible. Ideally I'd like to end up with a single deck strategy to play that would give me a positive EV with flat betting.

There is no requirement that you remain a member longer than a quarter - there is even a 10 day free trial option.
However, once you see the wealth of information available, not to mention the comraderie, you will probably want to stick around.

I suggest that your best bet for that game is to learn a level 2 system that keeps a side count. The strongest and most accessible is Carlson's Advanced Omega II and has a decent price tag to boot.
Hi-Opt II (also level 2, ace side count) outperforms AOII for SD, H17, with a typical 1-4 spread (although they are pretty close, and you can find several combinations of spreads and pen to push AOII over the top by a few pennies.) This is a direct comparison using all indices for both systems, from bjstats.com.
Safe to assume these are both damn good for this game though!
