Looking For More Indicies

The count is unbalanced, DD, H17, LAS, DAS, Pen 70% I have the indicies for the ILLS 18 & Fab 4 and would like to add a few more to my arsenol. I'm looking for the indicies for the listed compositions.

I will definetly be reading BJA3. I realize X,X should never be split even if it is the correct play at times. I didn't think Soft DBLS and the split pairs I mentioned were in the same catagory as X,X. As always, I respect and trust the opinions and experiances of AP players and plan to follow their advice to the letter. Yes, I definetly want to continue playing. I guess it's my personality to learn as much about a given subject as possible. Also, I have studied the indicies for the HI-Lo count taken from "Professional Blackjack" pages 48 and 49! Page 38 under "Pairs" it reads: The higher the count per deck, the more pairs you should split! The indicies in this book are for the Hi-Lo and Halves count system. I am currently learning with the unbalanced level one count and this is why I was searching for those added indicies. Once I am more comfortable with counting and TC conversions ( at home ) I may switch over to a balanced system.

Leaving lotsa money on the table. If you're going to get caught you will get caught, if you have skilled cover you might not be, splitting face cards isn't going to make or break your longevity in itself.

Personally I establish my ability to split 10s early and often, the cost is minimal with small bets. While not as good as 20, splitting face cards is still +ev vs 3-6 at neutral counts. On a side note, it adds some amusement as it really riles up certain types of players. This could conceivably scare them off before any other non-ploppy plays irritate them.

Added bonus: They could really start going off about how you don't know how to play, you don't know the game, etc. etc. and not much better than for the pit to hear this and expect you to be a moron, too.

Couldn't disagree more bobpuller. Splitting 10's regularly will greatly effect your longevity. In my experience, slitting tens along with spreading to 2 or 3 hands during positive counts are the two single biggest giveaways of a counter. Worse that employing a large spread even.

As far as cover, other players at the table commenting about your moronic plays won't buy you cover. Surveillance can't hear a word they are saying! You may think splitting tens early on is buying you cover, but that is not the case either. The old saying is that only idiots and counters split tens. Splitting tens early on, may just initiate the skills check from surveillance that otherwise wouldn't have happened and then they will notice other play deviations along with bet spread that they otherwise wouldn't have. In effect, you are sending out a signal that maybe they should take note of you.

If you play the same locations regularly, I will choose giving up a little EV by not splitting in exchange for longevity. When you factor in the cost of your splitting tens early on for cover, the risk of splitting outweighs the reward for me.

In many shops requests for skill checks come from the floor, not initiated by the eye. In these cases then yes, developing a reputation as a moron is beneficial.

How would you know that splitting 10s will automatically bring down the heat if you're afraid to do so?
In those rare occasions where the casino shows it's throat, you can't take a little nibble with your 20. You have to clamp down, HARD, and re-split to 4 hands if possible. I am a regular 10 splitter playing chunky red and light green and get no heat. I even get away with it on a "counter trap" DD game I know many who have gotten the heave-ho from. To reiterate, these are local stores I play bi-weekly or so.

It's all in how you present it. I give up my EV in low bet situations to set up the correct play when the money is on the line. Refusing the 10 split is the opposite of that. A successful quad 10 split with a dealer bust can be enough to make a losing session into a winner, it has for me several times.

One last note, if a store will skills check you for splitting tens early in a shoe, they are overly paranoid anyway and you won't last unless you spend almost all of your EV hiding your skill.

I don't recall saying that I was 'afraid' to split tens. lol I am in my eighth year of fulltime blackjack play and believe me have split tens many times. I still do so when the count is super high, and I just can't ignore the opportunity. In these rare cases, for me the risk is worth the reward, which is how I weigh everything. In most cases though, based on my experiences the risk is not worth the reward. I play over a thousand hours a year, mostly in the same location and don't wish to burn out any before absolutely necessary. I play a slightly higher level than you spreading green to mid black and I will tell you from my experience that splitting tens quad times with 4 or 5 hundred dollars on the table IS going to draw attention in many places! And that is attention that I don't want. Don't underestimate your opponent. I won't take them long to figure you out. I choose not to help them.

I might add, that your thought process here is just wrong. The play is worth whatever the longterm EV of the play is and not the results of that individual hand. Splitting 10's quad times with your green max bet out is only worth a small amount, maybe a buck or two at most. That didn't turn your session from a loser to a winner. lol

I clarify my post. Non-high stakes players are way too afraid of splitting tens. If you're playing black action it is obviously a different scenario.

beats winning $150. The $450 certainly did tilt the margin. Yeah, I know, theoretical EV blah blah blah.

And yeah, sometimes you break even (or worse!) splitting tens.

Nevertheless it is a powerful, and underestimated tool. Most people don't factor in resplits when looking at its value. And when the count is above the index for splitting, first of all its value rises RAPIDLY. Second, you will get re-splits a surprisingly high percentage of the time.

The only local game I never messed with splitting tens was a single deck game with no resplits that lived a short life due to lack of interest.

(side note, that's what things have come to, a casino rolls out a full pay single deck game and I can get it heads up almost every time I visit!)
