Since KO has a better betting correlation and Hi-Lo has a better playing correlation and since both use the same counts - could you not play both?
Use Hi-Lo for indices and KO for betting?

KO and Hi-Lo don't use the same tags. KO counts the seven as a plus one, while Hi-Lo doesn't count the seven at all. By the way, welcome back to the, dare I say, grind!
Add the 7 side count to the RC to place your bets according to KO (make sure you customize KO for an IRC of 0) and then make your plays according to the Hi-Lo indices.
Of course, you're probably better off just using Hi-Lo and spending your effort on an Ace side count instead, but it would be interesting to see some sims for this "Hi-Ko" count. And if you sidecounted Aces as well, I bet this system would outperform both KO and Hi-Lo. Although, with the amount of effort required, you may as well go to a level 2 count.
One could play a non-ace reckoned system and side count aces. That is one way to approach it. One could also true-count KO, using an IRC of zero and adjust the TC based on the number of decks seen and left in play and use the Hi-Lo indices. Either way is more difficult than KO in its original form and might not be worth the work it takes to do it, but for someone who wants to glean every last advantage, these approaches can get a little more.
