Many means of getting an edge at blackjack exist aside from counting, unfortunately all of them will get you banned from the casino if they think you are a consistent winner. Unfortunately there is no completely satisfactory way round this.
I wrote about a couple of techniques which are virtually impossible to detect in Get The Edge At Blackjack. Arnold Snyder also developed a few extreme cover methods for his Blackbelt In Blackjack, methods such as depth-charging and opposition betting and shuffle-tracking. Some of these techniques involve card counting, some don't.
Unfortunately methods which will not get you banned are either very difficult to execute or sacrifice much of your advantage.
Congratulations on avoiding Benson's snare. Some people were not so lucky.
You may want to check Michael Kaplan's article in Cigar Afficianado on how he was barred from the Hilton for making 2 (!?) winning sports bets.
