Bush and I are about one month different in age. I was drafted out of school in the fall of '66 when my student deferment was withdrawn. The Selective Service (meaning Draft Board) had tremendous power then. Partly because my father, like Bush's, had been a war hero, I didn't go underground, or flee to Canada or hire an attorney to litigate my deferment back [I was broke, anyway]. I went to the recruiting office and volunteered for a burst of three, selecting combat arms as my MOS of choice (I was a tank crewman).
The frigging weasel in the Whitehouse used family influence to jump to the front of the line to avoid anything inconvenient, dirty or dangerous in terms of military service. The reserves may be routinely activated for dangerous duty now, now that our active military is less than 45% its size during the draft, but in the sixties it was a refuge for White males who wanted to avoid actual service.
I have one good thing to say about our President: he has a good sense of humor. Otherwise, I hold him in complete disdain. I just hope we can fully recover from the damage the ignoramus has done.
.....and I was wrong. I shouldn't have posted anything in the middle of the thread, and I apologize. Funny how a few drinks can bring out the bad side of me now and then (hey, us liberals can be jerks now and then, too).
I deleted my posts in the thread, and I promise to keep politics out of it from now on. Sorry, folks.
Perhaps the poster known as "anonimuss" might consider doing the same.
Some of us here are serious professionals at the game of BJ. Some of us may not be so serious. That's okay. However, I do believe every BJ player who comes to this site really does so to learn more about beating the game. But not to beat George Bush!
