We've had this thread before. You're right.
thats why I posted it on the Free. This is as close to TILT as I get.
willi-
why not leave 'em a toke now and then-you can't take it with you!
what the hey willi!
No matter what I freaking toke, it is never enough. Dealers have no clue what I am doing anyway and can add nothing to my EV. I just have to listen to their "at least one of us is making money" whining for hours. Even when I lost just five figures and make a comeback for a few thousand.
If they would toke me when I lose, I would be happy to toke them when I win.

They should be paid by their rich employer. If they aren't happy with what they get, they need to organize. Maybe even go on strike. Their employers will absolutely pay them more, but they are too stupid ro organize and do something about it.
There was a time I frequented the volcano store fairly often. A couple of dealers there told me their annual income was in the $60-70k+ range. Not too shabby for passing out cards. Sure the job gets boring I suppose, but nobody is holding a gun to their heads to suit up and clock in.
I've witnessed the hustling dealers, which only makes me not tip. IF when I do tip (and I've mentioned this before), they rap my red on the tip box and don't say "thanks", my tipping for that session comes to an immediate halt, matters not how much I win. I don't go to Vegas to be hustled by an employee, or for that matter anywhere else.
I think a modest tip (only when up), is in order from time to time. I NEVER tip when losing, it's just foolish to do so, why add salt to the wound? I may toss out a red every 30-45 minutes or so, or toss a green at the end of my playing session. Again, only if I've picked up a nice win and the dealer wasn't hustling me along the way.
I've played with people tossing purple and yellow out like they had a chip machine in their rooms, and never tip. A personal thing I suppose, but no dealer will get very wealthy over my generosity. I've never had one toss me a green out of the tray after getting my butt handed to me and tapping out as I got up to leave. Funny, they always seem to say "better luck". I just say thanks and walk away.
unless you are getting something substantially worth the tip amount in return, other than just the winnings. I really hate the thought of what it is that I will have to mathematically risk in order to recoup the amount of a tip. Just do the math based on your hourly EV. Then maybe you will reconsider the idea of a green chip tip. If youre playing at a 1.5% advantage, how many average size bets will you have to risk to pay for that tip? It is a sobering thought.
Many dealers think that all gamblers are stupid anyway. I don't think they even give them any real deep down honest respect. So when you tip, it's just providing them with more affirmation as to just how stupid you are and something to brag about in the break room. If you don't tip, they may hate you, but at least they will give you some honest respect for your intelligence.
About six years ago, I was up for the night quite a bit. I was a single bachelor then. Hadnt had a girl friend or even a date for a while. There was this voluptuous perfect young thing who was a cocktail waitress in a casino I frequented. She even like me a lot. I was making ground with her fairly well until it all turned and went the other way immediately after one major wrong move. I tipped her a green chip.
Been there.
I was with another Yakuza babe (why do I always end up with these chicks?) the other night, she`s a "companion girl" and was paid for that evening by another.
Well, the evening came to a close, and I had successfully demonstrated my uniqueness. We whisked ourselves away from the crowd, and headed to her secret little pub. Things were going swimmingly until I decided to pick up the tab.
I immediately became just another customer to her, she flaked out, and the next day she cancelled our upcoming date.
Sadness.
She was hot.
Now you might ask, where`s the BJ, Syph? And I must answer ...
Not here.
:(
Hold on, there might be some value to this post. You now have absolutely no reason to tip anyone in the casino. The babes will hold you in contempt, and no one cares about the rest.
Best,
Syph
I have no idea why any card counter tips ever. This is a business not a charity, and there are worthier charities. The tipping never gets you back the EV that it costs.
Maybe if you get a loader or something a tip might be justified. Even then, you risk being busted for collusion.
I tip occasionally. I've tipped when a place has opened up a new table for me to have to myself. I've tipped security guards to talk me to my car when I have been seen flashing a lot of money in a seedy area.
And lately I was playing basic for the last half of a shoe heads up. The dealer recognized that I was a decent player and would know when to wait for a signal. When the shoe was over the dealer gave me a 5.0/6.0 cut. No comments. I wasn't counting, but behavior like that should be rewarded. I don't tip a lot, but it was still a tip.

Was downtown a few weeks ago, and doing poorly. Put out two white chips for the dealer. Had 17, she had 18. Said "Nineteen" and paid me off and thanked me for the bet!
I played a 6-deck game recently where there were multiple players. All eventually faded away. The dealer discovered that I could play just as fast as he could deal, and he was a very fast dealer. I assume that he thought it would be impossible to count at that speed, which was fine by me. I had no trouble at all. But at the speed we were playing, before I knew it, he was ignoring the shoe slot that would position the stop card about 1.5 decks from the back, and he was putting it right near the end of the shoe, about 1/2 deck or less from the back. 90%+ penetration. Makes + counts work great, when they come. Doesn't do a thing for all the - shoes of course.
In thinking back, maybe he did guess I was counting, and that if I won, I'd toke more (I did). And he kept putting the stop card near the end, shoe after shoe. Didn't make a lot of money (I don't seem to make a lot on 6d games although I usually win, but on a good night the wins are usually measured in 100's, where on a good SD game it can be 1000's...
Only problem is that many (most?) SD games have gone 6:5 where I play and I refuse to play it, even though it is probably beatable with a good spread.
I've had some very good dealers, and I have had some that (to quote a navy buddy of mine) "had the personality of a bent shit-can lid.." I don't need help on BS. Conversation is a plus. A bad attitude is not. If a dealer was enjoyable to play with, then I'll generally toke 'im. If he/she is a jerk, I reserve the right to play and keep my hard-earned money to myself...
At the Greektown (Detroit) opening in about 1999, I had gone to a $500 max bet pit to avoid the higher limit tables filled with one guy in a baseball cap playing table min at first base while people playing the $2K table max roamed from table to table. (I actually played a little there. Once one of the BP's I knew was called into the game after the spotter had left. He knew the deck was positive, but not enough to know if he should take insurance. I took insurance to let him know it was the correct count play. He put two yellow in between his two hands. The dealer did not have BJ and took my money. His money misteriously turned into a double down for his 11...)
In this back pit there were some of the worst dealers. Once a dealer had a BJ. He made a disgusted noise and swept the cards off the table. He neglected to sweep the players money off the table. One of the pit people was talking about me, going from $25-2x$500. Her boss said, "some people think they can count the cards, but don't worry about it. It's impossible." There was another dealer that was so bad it had to be on purpose. I swear there was a mispay every 5-10 hands. I left when there were just two black chips left in the rack for a break. I came back from my break and she was gone. I looked all around the casino and never saw her again.
