If I have my girlfriend over my shoulder and when the winnings are up I hand her a significant portion of the money and say something like "why dont you go play slots", would this help thow them off to how much I was winning?

but aren't you neglecting the effects on your bankroll of that slot play? Perhaps this would work with the money that you have already allocated for the wife playing slots, but perhaps you are not really including the cost of cover too.
One assumes it was part of the initial plan. Give the money to the girl and say out loud for everyone to hear "Go play the slots, Dear." but she just pockets the money for them (I assume I am understanding this correctly).
And in my opinion...yes, every once in awhile this can throw them off the scent but you probably can't get away with it every single time. It's conceiveable they can figure out she's not really playing the money on the slots...and it's also possible they'll have a more detailed account of your $$ won that evening. But against some slightly lazier survelliance you could pull this off to your advantage and they would not be the wiser.
It may be wise for your lady-friend to actually head off towards the slots though and maybe even play a few spins just for show....but if she plays too much then you're obviously giving away your hard-earned advantage...and it seems fairly unlikely that they would keep that close an eye on her via the cameras to begin with.
If they suspect something they can still see how much you cash out for at the cage but you could get around this by cashing out parts of the total on different shifts.

Yes that is what I meant, she would not actually play except a few spins. Alternatively, if we are doing well at the table she could use her comp card when she plays to get a room...being aware that we are giving back anything won.

concealing the amount of your winnings. Especially good if she says something like, "Honey, can I have another $100 for the slots, hmmm", and rubs against you seductively. While she is distracting everyone with her femininity you pick up $150. You respond, "Sure, babe, here's another hundred", and pass her the $150.
My wife doesn't play Blackjack, but we love this trick. She spots heat for me, too. Another good one is distracting people while asking if she can have your drink. You can palm chips when everyone is looking at her.
Use your ingenuity to think up other ways to distract and either rathole or pass chips. It's fun.
