I've recently decided to learn the Hi-Opt 2 counting system so I can have stronger results on Double Deck games. Although I'm somewhat familiar with the Ace Side count, I'm still a bit confused about what I'm supposed to do with it. Am I supposed to increase my bet even when the True Count is negative but with a good amount of Aces left? And can I start increasing my bet at, say, a True 1 with a good amount of Aces left in the game ??

You adjust your count for the ace imbalance, adjusting the count for betting purposes only with Hi-Opt 2. You continue to use the normal Hi-Opt2 count for playing purposes.
For example if you are through the first deck and you have seen only 3 aces (normal would be 4 aces seen) you are 1 ace rich for the remainder of the shoe. So you add 2 to your running count for betting purposes only. If you are more risk averse you can just add 1 to your running count.
If you have seen 5 aces through 1 deck then you subtract 2 or 1 from your running count for betting purposes only.
If you can do this at half deck or 1/4 deck intervals then you may be able for factor in more accurate information for aces remaining.

Yes, I agree, in terms of about even being able to keep a side count, but I think it's up to the person considering it. I have trouble keeping dual counts and factoring in the side count. But if someone wants to do it and it works for them, their decision.

Humble's Hi Op II document does recommend play deviation for doubling on 8- 10 depending on Ace richness.Primarily for betting.
