My opinion
You seem to be able to spread 1-10. That should be pretty close to producing an advantage for you, although 1-12 is what I have always seen recommended for 6d. I play a lot of 6d myself, and I also use HiLo. My only comment here is that 6d is going to produce a _lot_ of variance when compared with 1d or 2d. IE you can get a big TC, and bet big, only to see the TC get bigger because there is still a lot of "shoe" left and there are still small cards in that shoe.
I've noticed many times that the variance seems to vary with the square of the number of decks. And no, that is not a scientific measure, I just notice in the notes I keep that at 1d (no longer playable around here due to 6:5) or 2d, the "swings" have always been less pronounced than at 6d or 8d games...
Remember that if you flip a coin 100 times, only 2/3 of the trials will have a total somewhere between 45 and 55 heads. That leaves a lot of wild variance for that other 1/3. With 6d the variance simply swings farther. If you don't screw up counting, or keeping up with the TC, or with your betting schedule, or with basic strategy, you should eventually come out on the plus side.
Now all that is said based on the 6d games I play...
DAS, DA2, S17 (when possible, although many tables are H17) resplit any pair to total of 4 hands, split Aces get one card, late surrender, insurance offered, BJ pays 3:2. When the house starts twinking with the rules, ie D10-11 only, no resplitting aces, etc, things go farther south on the "swings".
