How do casinos keep tabs on known counters?

It is my understanding that casinos log our buy-in amount and or "cash-out" amount in the computer system in the pit. An article on this site (by a former floor man) stated that this system is used for rating peoples play, comps and such. It is NOT typically used to track counters and is rarely matched against any counter data base.

Question: Is this correct? If so, WHAT IS the method by which known counters are ID'd? Is there another computer system? A written list? Facial recognition? ie how do the floor people communicate with each other regarding AP's (and cheaters for that matter)?

Some casino's can and will make notations about players in the computer for the pit to see when logging a player in or out. This is one disadvantage to using a players card.

by that casino a comment is entered into your player ratings file which pops up on the screen when your ratings card is swiped by the pitboss. If you're suspected but not yet made a comment may pop up for the pitboss to call the eye immediately for them to begin watching your action so they can make a decision about you.

There are also national databases with entries about skilled players (such as Griffin, Biometrica, ICSN, and OSN) which casinos may refer to see if you are an undesirable. Most casinos will then independently review you to see if you are really undesirable and some (stupid ones) will just assume the info is correct and not wait for a confirmation and just take action against you immediately.

Once you're restricted in any casino an entry is made into your players account and a separate entry is made into another database that is exclusively maintained by that casino's surveillance department. They may or may not also flyer you to neighboring casinos, forward a report to sister casinos within that corporation, and illegally forward your likeness and personal info to one of the national databases alone with comments that could possibly be considered defamation like "caught cheating at 21" when you were just hole carding or counting cards.
