How accurate are your records?

Record keeping, not so simple! A dilemma!

Picture this:

Three players at a bj table.

Total hands played are 100

First player loses 20 units
Second player loses 20 units
Third player wins 39&1/2 units
House has a net win of 1/2 unit.(as expected)

First player's record shows a loss of 20 units due to variance.
Second player's record shows a loss of 20 units due to variance.
Third player's record shows a win of 39&1/2 units due to variance.

Now replace the three players with one player playing three hands.
His records show a loss of 1/2 unit.

It would seem obvious that the whole table result is the correct one and the individual ones are meaningless.

Are we members on a team whether we like or not?

Every serious BJ-player should keep records about his sessions.They should comprise the following columns:Casino,number of hours played,session result,cumulative result for the year,cumulative lifetime result.
Although meaningless in the short run, they can tell you a lot once you have the necessary hours.
First, you will be able to see whether you're really winning.Second, you will able to establish your real approximate win rate. Third, you will be able to compare results at different casinos.

juat counting this as one "long" session with 3x the usual hands? That's almost how it works out, although covariance has an influence on total win/loss since it would be different to play 300 consecutive hands vs 100 rounds of 3 hands each. I personally ignore all such stuff and just keep up with approximate hands played, which means that playing 2 spots all the time gets counted. But on occasion, say in a shoe game, I play one unless the count jumps and there is an open spot beside me with others at the table, as then I spread to 2 or 3 hands to eat more of the good cards. I don't keep up with these extra hands at all, it is just part of "strategy". I don't think that would matter myself. If you always play 2 spots, you could certainly either count rounds or hands so long as you keep up with something in a consistent way.
