Hitting a hard 16 against...Henry Tamburin

I read this Q&A on Henry Tamburin site (see link below), is this sound advice regarding the multideck games as he states below? For the pure Basic Strategy player this doesn't seem wise, or is it?

Should you hit a hard sixteen against the Dealer's 7 thru Ace, if the 16 consists of three or more cards? IF so, doesn't this increase your odds of busting?

If you are playing in a single deck game and you have a 3 card 16, you should stand on the 16 only against a dealer �s 10. In multiple deck games, stand on multi-card 16�s against a dealer�s 10 only when your hand contains any 4�s or 5�s. You should not hit 3 card 16�s against any other dealer upcard.

Without checking the exact figures, these plays all intuitively seem correct.

The play H/S on 16 vs. T is one of the closest in all of BJ (up there with 13 vs. 2, 12 vs. 4, and 9 vs. 2). I think the proper Hi-Lo index is something like +.07. Almost anything can push the correct play from Hit to Stand. Certainly using up an extra 5 will do the trick.

I believe that the word 'not' is not supposed to be there. You SHOULD hit hard 16's that contain 3 or more cards against any other high (7,8,9,A) dealer upcard, even if your hand contains a 4 or a 5; 10's are the only high cards you should stand against in multiple deck games when you have a hard 16 that contains at least one 4 or 5. It's also worthwhile noting that composition-dependent exceptions to basic strategy (such as the one noted above and also hitting on 12 vs. 4 when the 12 consists of a 10 and a 2) should NOT be used in 8-deck games, but SHOULD be used in games with 6 or fewer decks (according to Fred Renzey in "Blackjack Bluebook").

if the 16 consists of 3 cards or 6 cards if you are playing pure BS. With any BS you hit 16 against 7 or better in a multiple deck game. This only changes if you are counting. I know in the knockout system I use, there is an adjustment to hiting 16 vs 9 or 15 vs 10 when the count is at +4 in a 6 deck shoe. I have not seen an adjustments at 16 vs 7 in my system. Good luck.

There are 2 widely accepted composition-dependent exceptions to basic strategy for the pure BS player for games using 6 or less decks:
(1.) Standing on hard 16 vs. 10 if the hard 16 contains at least one 4 or 5
(2.) Hitting on 12 vs. 4 if the 12 is comprised of a 10 and a 2.
