In what is otherwise a very well written and amusing book, titled Poker Nation, (2002) Andy Bellin has a marvelously inaccurate description of counting cards at blackjack. Counters "have Rainman-like abilities to memorize the position of the 416 cards in an eight-deck shoe. There are only a handful of people on the planet who can perform such a feat..." etc., etc.
Other than the blackjack section, it's a great book, packed with hilarious lingo and slang, populated by crazy gamblers & shady characters, and full of folk wisdom and memorable quotes.
Worth reading, and a lot of fun, even if you're not a degenerate gambler.
Well, excuse me, I gotta go start memorizing the positions of all those cards.
