Recently, I was visiting a MGM-Mirage property when I started to feel some heat. I decided to get up and leave before anything happened. As I was walking down the pit area to leave, I looked over at the pit podium and noticed one of those Griffin Gold things on the podium with my photo on it. Is it possible that the pits now have this service along with the surveillance rooms????

I wouldn't worry too much. Griffin Gold is basically just as much of a joke as the Griffin book. It seems dangerous in theory but, in practice, it doesn't do anything to stop the real professionals from getting the money. I'm sure you'll figure out one of the many ways around Griffin Gold in due time. I am far more concerned with staying away from a wise boss with an above average IQ and some experience (they're rare, but they do exist) than I am an army of morons in cheap suits with millions of dollars of high-tec equipment and a team of half-witted surveillance goons a phone call away. Remember, floormen are a lot like snakes. They're more scared of you than you are of them and their brains are very small. The real question is why were you playing in the MGM in the first place when countless better games of any advantage play variety can be found all over town?
The real tradgedy is that the Casinos are way too paranoid.
As discussed, COUNTERS can not win all the time.
And only a few people whom count are trully beating the game. SAY, maybe one in 10,000 people.
With 26 states having legalized gambling, Nevada better wake up.
Or they may wake up from their drunken stupor one day and find their oasis is again a desert.
The GRIFFIN book is the industry's own enemy.
How many counting players do you really know whom are that much of a threat? Action whether a counter or tourist builds casinos.

I'm curious about your comments on Griffin. dont know much about these guys. how do you know they are a joke? without going into too much detail, im curious about how you get around griffin. i guess im kind of paranoid about them and all the talk i hear about surveillance, facial recognition and the like? whats the deal with all this crap, and how concerned should i be?
Rather than concern yourself with Griffin and surveillance and what not, you should try to identify and avoid potentially dangerous bosses and then play in as inconspicuous a manner as possible when t hey're not around. A good boss is worth a lot more than a multimillion dollar surveillance system with biometric analysis and the works. I really can't go into the details of how to get around Griffin, but if you think about how it all works, it will become clear and they won't catch you . Or, if they do, it will already be too late.
Spook, the originator of this thread, made a couple of rookie errors and that is why he got caught.
When Thorp, Revere, and Humble published their books the industry went paranoid if not nuts. They changed the rules and reacted as if they were going to go broke.
We all saw it from the 60's to the 80's, they clamped down and ran off their customers. The tables visatations became less. So less overall profits.
Besides whom do you know whom has the mathematical background of Thorp? Who has the Experience of Revere? The Bankroll and team as Uston had?
If anything the books helped the industry. Why, because MOST players only know enough to hurt themselves even more than when they were COMPLETELY ignorant and INCOMPETENT.
Visit RENO, VEGAS, Laughlin. etc., and think back on the REAL BUZY times. TWENTY SIX states now offer gambling and we are in a recession. Not to mention the STOCK MARKET hit a rcord low not since 1929.
What does it all add up too? The greedy thug owners better dump the anti-counter routine paranoia and quit shuffling up everytime a large bet is put out.
How many of us care to go back to a casino that shuffles up and reacts like they have no sportsmanship? You label them as chimsey and say "THEY HAVE NO CLASS".
Look at RENO, that had a 35% less crowd in Reno last summer, followed by 45% less returns this summer. Look at the Closed Casinos.

I would like to say that I have only 5 years of pit experience and I have also known and still know pits who have been in this industry for 25+ years. That being said those with the most knowledge of the game of blackjack are the younger less experienced pits...Personally I got a job as a dealer because I could make more money with zero risk as the best mid range players make with all the risk that it involved with playing...When I took a promotion I soon found out that 90% of the other supervisors had no knowledge of any counting system. I also found out that the industry is very paranoid of anyone with any knowledge of the game. Many of my playing friends who have "turned to the dark side" and work for the casinos understand what I am talking about. The casino industry like employees who don't question bonehead policies. My outlook on it now is that I will stand and let the company I work for pay me $45,000/year and I will give the the least effort I can. This way I screw over my employer who has treated me like shit while promoting complete morons who bend over for them at the drop of a hat.
I would also like to point out the 99% of the people who count can not beat the game. Most people don't practice an hour or two each day like you are suppose to. I believe most people buy a book look it over and are in a hurry to play. They have no clue about what bet spread they need, the level of pen needed, minimum banroll requirements. Most don't even have basic strategy down...Most people who play this game are gamblers. And a truth about most gamblers are that they don't like to study hard because if they are reading or practicing their abilites that means they are not gambling.

I must certainly concur that I have seen my fair share of bosses who have been in the business for decades and yet are still clueless, but the most dangerous bosses I have encountered, whom I respect for their abilities, by the way, have all been veterans who have not only taken the time to learn about the games they protect but who also have seen it all in their time. Generally speaking, some of these guys will be onto your game within 30 seconds of you walking through the door and may watch a few hands just to confirm their suspicion. Knowledge gained through books can be a boon to a boss, but it can also be a danger to a know-it-all upstart. These are my favorite bosses because once they have been bamboozled they simply assume nothing is going on. Wisdom gained through experience cannot be defeated by even the strongest acts and deepest cover, so long as the experienced boss is also possessed of a strong knowledge of the games. As I said previously, I have no fear of an army of knitwits in cheap suits with a casino full of millions of dollars of the latest surveillance and game protection equipment, but I will not tresspass on a dangerous boss's grounds. What would be the point? By the way, none of these bosses (and I've run into very few) have ever had to back me off or give me any kind of trouble. Once I knew what they were capable of, I just avoided their presence. I'm just glad the casino industry has not become as wise as some of these rare bosses.

I wish there were more people like you. It seems a lot of the knuckleheads in the pits would just love to catch a counter but, from the sound of it, you just don't care. I applaud your apathy and your refusal to put your powers to evil use. Why don't you tell us where you work and which shift and then I can come play there and you can have a good snicker in the process while I spread about 1 to 100.
PS: A middle-limit player can earn plenty more than $45,000 in a year and only work 20 or so hours a week.
