Getting cheated in Vegas

I was playing a decent double deck game in Vegas awhile back playing alone, spreading $5-$35. This old chinese looking guy was dealing. After the first couple rounds something didnt seem right. I was down quite a bit, and this guy always seemed to get amazingly lucky. He rarely busted, and always seemed to catch that perfect card to complete his hand. I always seemed to bust, like he knew a face card was coming and gives it to me at the perfect time. I started watching him very closely. One time he tried to pay me less on a blackjack, could have been an accident though. Another time he made a strange lifting motion with the deck, I only saw him do that once though. If he was dealing seconds it was hard to tell, but didnt look like it. Being down over 50 units I switched tables to get a new dealer and things changed, it was a normal blackjack game again and I won a little bit. Then dealer break time comes and the old chinese guy comes in the box. I'm telling myself it was just bad luck before and things will turn around. Immediaty when he starts dealing the horrible run of luck hits me the same as before. I'm watching his every move. The only reason I'm staying at the table is I want to find out what this guys doing so I'll know what to look for in the future. I'm curious and would like to report this guy if he is doing anything. I can't detect anything. Couldnt see any peeking technique him might have been using. This horrilbe luck continues and finally I leave after losing over 90 units to the guy. My biggest session loss in a double deck game. I look over a few minutes later as he's finishing off the 1 other player at the table. Things went back to normal with the other dealers in that casino but avoiding this dealer in the future is the plan for now. Anyone have a simular experiance or know what this guy could have been doing? I'm thinking possibly marked cards?
Playing single deck games I notice some dealers turn the deck upside down when dealing their final card. Why do they do this and could this be a peeking technique?

Well, as one author used to put it, when you spot something 'funny', you should pick up your chips and leave. There's not much of an excuse for yourself to get crushed by a knock-out dealer like this. Be smarter next time.

But if there's a full $5 table and another $25 one which has 1 or 2 players, the casino would put this 'cheat' dealer over the $5 one.

The problem with your cheating dealer scenario, is that people talk. It wouldn't take long for a friend to tell a friend that this Casino has a dealer that does this and that. Also, when a disgruntled employee (dealer) leaves a Casino for any reason, he could have proof that the Casino employed a cheating dealer. That would be a serious problem for the management.

I have always suspected Cruise Ship Casino's of taking an ace or ten out of their decks. Especially since there is no Control Commision to oversee them. However, in the 20 or so years that cruise ship casino's have been popular, I have never heard of an ex dealer proving this in a tell all.

I have to conclude that cheating by the casino's is rare, and they have much more to lose than the player.

Dealers will cheat you based on personal grudges. Once I was playing large denominated ace coupons at a casino I patronized regularly and I would only back count. I was counting down a six decker and got an outrageously high count so I jumped in with my coupon and saw the dealer peak at my card by lifting the edge up from the felt. Then he proceeds to slide it passed me to third base. Of course it was a paint. Then he calls the pit boss and reports his "innocent" mistake. They refused to back it up but allowed anyone throw in their hand on the deal. When I protested that the dealer deliberately passed me because he peaked my card, all I got was blank stares from pb and the rest of the players. Seeing that things were becoming desperate, I said, "Look at the tape, damn it, it's all there plain as day." No one at the table spoke up for me and management flatly refused to replay the tape. What a bunch of criminals!

Then maybe the dealer was suspecting you for counting before you jumped in. According to the 'Team Play' chapter in BJA, 'Walk, don't run over to a table with a good count'.

OTOH, try to act a little bit more casual, other than excited. If you lay down a big stack of chips or a big bet really quickly, then you would've alerted the pit or the management. Do it at average speed.

But don't forget: I'm just making up the scenario in my above post.
