Getting better pen...

In general, 'can' tipping the dealer get you deeper cuts? Anyone know this from experience? ...or would it just be a waste of my cash to try this?

There may be rare exceptions, but I've never seen one. The few times a dealer sent signals that she might be "helpful," she wanted FAR too much in return. ;-)

You can't afford to tip, say 10% of the profits, unless the dealers agrees to reimburse you 10% when you lose -- which happens to the best of us with alarming regularity.

Would you tip if the dealer showed a penchant to tell you to hit or stand when you had a tip out for them?

Don't be a fool and tip your ev away, but do tip if you feel it is in your best interest, if it will work for you.

How would the dealer know this without peeking at the next card?

If the dealer is doing this and cheating for you in exchange for tips, and thereby cheating the house, he or she is a criminal. You are committing a felony by knowingly getting involved in such a situation.

Why would you want to do this? The risk outweighs the possible reward many, many times over.

If you tip once for better pen they expect it every time. It will get talked about by the dealers in the break room and eventually make its way to the pit.
