frustration

The Table had 4 players so i played 3 hands. 50% chances to get good cards. but I got the worst 3 hands always! i could win on the small bets, however in every High Count I bet, i lost most of them. My freinds, the Dealer said I really bad luck. It hurted me whole day, I was winning this month now i am down.

I'd like to get some advice or comment at this. I win 7 or 8 out of 10 times. But every lossing amount is 4,5 times my winning amount. therefore i just get very little money in the end of the month. another problem i have is usually i can win in the beginnng of the month, but lost in the last few days of that month. how can i get away with win small lose big and win the first 20 days, lose the last 10 days?

One of the most difficult things not to do in your early days as a card counter, is quit to "lock" in a win for some arbitary period. Your expectation playing the same game is the same at the end of the month. A lot of the time you are going to lose back a lot of your profit at the end of the month. You tend to remember this more than if you make an extra big score at the end of the month, because of the intense psychological pain.

Pain is weakness leaving the body. You play on regardless of whether you are jeopardizing a week, or a month, or a year's profits. If you can't do this you must forget about card counting. Quitting to preserve a win makes it impossible to get enough hours to succeed long-term as a card counter.

It appears to me that you are playing to preserve wins and that you are chasing losses to avoid leaving the table a loser for that session. That kind of play will lead to a lot of small wins and a few big losses, which is exactly what you report. Having 7 or 8 winning sessions out of 10 is indicative of this style of play. As for the end of the month problem, it is likely just the way it has worked out recently. My guess is that you have not been playing for very long, and what you are seeing is just coincidental to the time of the month.

Play for EV. You should know what the EV is for the game you are playing. When you total up your results at the end of the month, how close are you to EV for the number of hours you played? Forget about individual session results. They are virtually meaningless in the overall scheme of things. They will tend to show both large wins and losses, neither of which is a reliable indicator of what your long-term results should be.

i think i did chase when I lose, and i will leave the casino when I met a good shoe and win. shall i stay after a success shoe and forget about the winning, keep play until i feel tired? maybe it is the only way i can make my Winning amount close to lossing amount.

Isn't it funny how this particular page is filled with so much paranoia involving the paranormal? You must remember that Blackjack is science and not science fiction. Trust the math, master the psychology and look to the long run. Every session is just one moment of a single, lary large, lifetime sitting.

Where you stand at the end of the month, or the end of the day, is not important. Keep working to the long run.

Be a discerning reader. Take all of the info from this page and make your own conclusions. There are some that post here that make bold claims that anybody who has been around for awhile see as obvious lies. Don't get caught in the hype of those trolling the free boards with answers to all things. Now that's what I love about this board. I've been doing the same thing - wonging out of a winning session so I won't put it all back!!!!! I sensed that what I was doing was a no-no. Everything that I read suggests that more hours at good games means more EV - no ifs, and or buts about it. In fact, I was considering a post asking if this was a bad idea. I was even having the same problem about losing big amounts but only winning small amounts of money. Sure enough, I was chasing the losses and quitting early to "preserve" wins. Historically, of all my dumpings, wheither at poker or twenty-one, the biggest have been between 2am and dawn. I've pondered the reasons, and while I cannot definitively explain cause, I must conclude it's there and it's real. It's (maybe or probably) buried somewhere in our diurnal clock, an irradical part of our biological and metabolic heritage. The important thing is I no longer insist it's a coincidence and persist in defying the observation. I've recognized it as a valid phenomenom. And I stop play shortly after midnight and get some sleep.

And no need mention that one shouldn't play when tired. That's obvious. But inserting naptime before a witching hour session did not save me. Not all hours on the watch dial are the same. An industrial engineer can tell you that, in manufacturing, given equivalence in attending factors, the graveyard shift will always have the lowest rate of production and the highest rates of mistakes and injuries. It just does.

I don't know about poker, but this is a time period when you are more likely to find heads-up games or games with fewer players at the blackjack tables. This means you will be playing more hands per hour, which means you are putting more money in the betting square than you might be in games when the casinos are more crowded. It also means you will have bigger swings. DD' has mentioned before that you have your biggest losses in the best games. This is an adjunct of that.

Don't concern yourself with "winning big" in any particular session. Be more concerned with getting in the hours, which gets the EV, assuming you are playing in a decent game to begin with. Reasons to quit should include deterioration of game conditions, avoiding heat, being tired or keeping other commitments. They should not include how much you have won or lost in a particular session, unless you have totally run out of cash at the moment.

I played a DD game with 3 other players (they dropped in after I had started). Big count, dealer gets a 20, three players get 21's, I get a 16. I sat at one game where I went in the hold 100 units.

The real problem with this game is that you do _not_ eke out X dollars per hour. You have huge losses, bigger wins, and your bankroll goes up and down wildly. Hopefully more up than down, but not guaranteed...

When I set a time limit, my brother refuses to leave if he is on a "winning streak". And always leaves after losing a few hands in a row. Superstitious twit. :)
