Foxwoods/Mohegan Sun $5 Tables
Both have very limited numbers of $5 tables, usually early mornings (8 AM - Noon or 1 PM). Both raise table minimums as soon as possible (based on number of players), since both would prefer to have a $10 or $15 table in play 15 minutes/hour rather than have a $5 table in play for the full hour. At the Mohegan Sun your bet is grandfathered, so you can continue to play at $5, but, at both casinos, all spots at a $5 table are usually filled before the shoe is loaded and, usually, there are one or more players trying to play behind most spots on a table (with the additional payouts and arguments about hand-play, this really lowers the hands/hours average).
Based on the volume of table-games players and the way both casinos try to manage the tables to assure multiple-player tables, you are usually better-off playing a $10 table. In the 8 AM - 4 PM cycle during the week and the 8 AM - Noon cycle on non-holiday weekends, you can frequently play alone or with only one or two other players and no back-action.
