If you were on the show and won 50k and were offered 100k but had to bet it on one hand of bj from a single deck would you take the 50 grand or bet the money and maybe win 200-250 or push at 100k.
If surrender is available and you are risk averse, then take the BJ option and surrender unless you get a BJ. No downside with early surrender, minimal downside with late surrender.
What if the dealer has a face showing and still has bj? This is hypothetical but without surrender. I would take the money and pay taxes on it but if I had like 200k then maybe I would risk it. For 50k you won't see me eating maggots, believe me, even if I lost my entire br and needed the money.
You can surrender against a dealer face up, as long as it is early surrender. I am saying that you would surrender any hand other than a player BJ. This means that you would surrender a hard 20 against a dealer 6 up. Obviously not the EV maximizing decision, but it is better than taking the $50K, at no additional risk.
I agree about the maggots part. I could probably do that for $500K, though. Everybody has a price.
