I had dinner with Eliot when I first arrived in Vegas, and aside from Zg constantly interrupting the conversation, the depth of Eliot's insight, intelligence, and charm, made the evening an utter delight. For those who have not met him, I can only assure you the individual that was presented on cardcounter.com was only a fraction of his personality.
Sometimes the art exceeds the individual, this was not the case with Eliot.
He fought the good fight, and for those who questioned his motives, they simply had never met the man. Arnold Snyder once mentioned that the very traits that make a successful counter, are the very same that are shared by a con man. This could never be with Eliot. I could never imagine him skulking into a casino to avoid detection, or engaging in some elaborate ruse in order to deceive the establishment. He is far too noble for such antics.
His absence will be a dead loss for the community.
That said, I, for one, am delighted that Eliot has decided to move on.
Quite honestly, moderating a BJ board is a waste of his talents. Maximum threshold velocity must be maintained, so to speak, and he graced the community with his presence for too long, undoubtedly to the detriment of far more important projects.
A gentlemen and a scholar, Eliot, you will be missed.
Best wishes,
Syph
