I bet 2% of my bank when my edge was better than 4% and ending up losing one-tenth of my total funds today. This game is really tough which is why the majority of players quit after a few years. The odds indicate that you'll be added to the list.
I've read it years ago but thanks anyway. I still play because I have advantage and the setbacks are inevitable. Although it does require some degree of maturity to manage-which I probably don't have. Getting your nose opened is no fun and it hurts when it happens. Aside: A.S. does not play blackjack professionally.
I thought 2% is half Kelly when advantage is >4%. A different incantation is to bet full Kelly on half the bankroll. I am still trying to build the bank so quarter Kelly isn't so good in that regard.
is to bet 1/4 Kelly. For most is may seem too conservative but I have experienced negetive swings for months with hundreds of hours playing the best games in the world spreading whatever with negative results. In one casino I played 4DK with .25 off the top 6 days a week 10-12 hrs/day for 3.5 months or so and was still below breaking even. I did finally pull out but it taught me a lesson to be conservative and sleep easier.
Formerly I employed betting spreads because the authorities claimed it the optimal methodology. But then I came to realize after numerous barrings, it was too easy to pick up on the radar. So I was forced to adopt a betting scheme designed to fool surveillance while still delivering a similar win rate. And I am adhering to Blackwood's sage advice to never bet more than 1% of my bank regardless of the count.
