i was fooling around with my SBA index generator today and decided to punch in A,10 vs 6.computer came up with +13 to double down.does the program understand that bj gets 1.5.if so,is the proper play to doubledown with a high enough count.think of the cover this play would give you.im sure im wrong-would someone set me straight.
It will give you a lot of cover. The dealer will won't even think twice about it because it happens so often. I'm sure the pit boss will feel the same way. Ho hum.
I am just waiting for that plus 13 count with the dealer showing a 6, so I can pull this cover play.
Has anyone determined at what count in a 6:5 game it would be more profitable to double than to collect the BJ premium? Since counters are not going to play the 6:5 game, I guess this is only of academic interest.
the index you're seeing is for doubling soft-21 after splitting tens. The EM-index for BJ vs 6 is much more higher (around +28).

This question has been asked and answered several times on BJ Green. Braun published an index for this long ago. 1980, I think. And Cac has independantly verified with his own software.
A Counter wouldn't play a 6:5 game anyway, since a lot of our edge comes from the 3:2 payout. The index for doubling a BJ will be much lower, but could never compensate for the initial disadvantage.

As I explain in my upcoming book, there are only three types of
people who double down on blackjack:very good players,very poor
players, and hot-dogs (i.e. show-offs). Now the very fact that you
play excellent basic strategy will indicate that you are neither a
poor player or a hot dog. Therefore you will be opening yourself up
for increased surveillance.. The same goes for 17 vs, Ace.
