Stay there, play elsewhere. The Flamingo is the Vegas home of Mindplay.

Nevertheless, gamblers' suspicions worry casino executives like Harrah's Loveman, who has so far declined to install the tables. "The player has to have complete faith that the game is not manipulable by the casino," says Loveman. "You can get to a point where you are too clever for your own good."

Now Harrah's owns Flamingo. We'll see what happens. I hope the MindPlay cheating device will be removed promptly.

What is Mindplay?

Mindplay is a table that is specially equipped with various sensors. The table has a computer that tracks the amount bet and cards dealt to each player and is able to evaluate the playing ability of each customer. The primary purpose of this functionality is supposedly to ensure that players get all of the comps they are entitled to.

The tables use a built in shuffler and a bar coded deck so that the computer knows the exact order of cards after every shuffle. This is supposedly used only to ensure that there are no dealing errors or cheating (dealing seconds, etc). The casino's assure us that they would never shuffle early because the player will be dealt a BJ, or conversely deal an extra round when the dealer will receive a BJ.

These devices are clearly illegal in my opinion, but the Nevada Gaming Commission disagrees.

Mindplay will actually cut the comps of many players because it is slow (less hands), will total your bets to the cent, where a favorable pit might give you extra, not give you credit for any time where you did not place a bet (bathroom and cell phone brakes etc)

It has in fact been used to shuffle early at the El Dorado in Reno.
It was not successful when it was at the LVH

Though many pit and surviellance types are not smart enough to realize it yet, the biggest savings to the casino using Mindplay is the cutting of both staffs. You no longer need as many people because the machine will total the bets, catch the cheats, evaluate the players, make sure the dealer is not cheating and so forth. One must wonder how many holes it in fact leaves once the staffs are cut, I can think of several possibilities.

There are now other firms planning similar types of systems. Seems if you can come up with a product that appeals to the two huge things when selling to a casino, effective or not, if the players will play on it or not, you will make a ton in sales.
Those two huge things of course are casino paranoia and greed.
