Don Johnson....

Who is this guy? Is this for real? He couldn't sound more full of himself in these interviews:

"They beat most people in the long run because the average person won't have the bankroll," Johnson said. "But I have my own bankroll. If you can take the swings, you're going to win. You also have to understand the math."

Johnson, who declined to call himself a professional gambler, would not divulge his betting strategy. However, he emphatically said he is no cheater and denied being part of any gambling ring.

"I'm not breaking any laws," he said. "I'm beating them with my own skills."

"I don't do anything like the MIT guys," Johnson said. "I can figure things out on my own."

When Mr Johnson's story first came to light, it was apparent to me from his background that he was playing at some sort of advantage and not just a common "whale" that got lucky. As details emerged and we learned of the rebate he had access to, I became a lot less impressed. Was was surprising is that other 'large players' before him didn't do like wise, or maybe they did, but just not to the same extend or notoriety. So I don't blame Mr Johnson for taking advantage of this opportunity, but I don't see it as any great feat, as he had an opportunity not available the the average joe.

The same thing happens in the stock market. The big boys have opportunities that the common guy doesn't. When Mr Buffet, buys big into a company, he gets a deal not available to everyone. Maybe he buys x amount of ABC company stock for the discounted price of 26 dollars a share, when it is trading for 32 on the market. I mean come on, hasn't he already made a profit the minute he makes the deal? And then he has the nerve to sit down with some TV reporter and tell you that his sucess is from picking solid companies that he is familiar with and uses their products every day. Bull***t! His sucess is from getting insider deals not available to the public. Same as Mr Johnson in AC.

Larry Flynt, Kerry Packer to name two. Larry Flynt did it for everyone to see right there on 60 minutes. Yellowjack/BJTraveler made seven figures doing it in Korea.

There are at least a hundred GC members who can interpret those very rudimentary formulas. And everything cuts two ways.
