Discovery -Casino Comps

Entertaining program tonight about casino comps. Max Rubin gave some good pointers but I dont understand why he started out betting black with only a bankroll of $900. This is a quick way to go broke and get nothing in return as Max proved it.

Due to Max losing his bankroll($1300 after splitting of 4's three times with a doubledown and losing all) after a few shoes of play he did not get comped a room because he did not put in the action required. Max was hoping for much luck and knew he could tap out in a heartbeat,I'm sure that's the reason his bank was so small.

In order to play for comps by betting black, a basic strategy player should have a trip bank of at least $8,000. This will help ride out the huge negative swings. Of course you will still lose but WILL DEFINITELY get comps and have a better chance of smoothing out variance. Is it worth it?

Being a card counter I dont have a burning desire to always get a free room. Rooms are cheap these days. Now if I'm out to impress the women, that's another story.

they spent all day with max rubin and the pit boss hit a hard 17.didnt max teach these idiots to learn basic strategy before using his system.why didnt max tell the honeymoon couple to avoid the lady luck if your betting black.that place is a dump.you can get good enough comps on the strip if you bet black.i was unimpressed with max rubin.he seem to be a guy who makes more marketing himself than he does with his stupid system.

Looked like another Las Vegas-shilling piece of garbage from the Discovery Channel touting the casino party line telling gamblers they can get something for nothing. Merely a 1 hour infomercial commissioned by the Las Vegas tourism industry using Max as their shill to bring more greedy suckers there.

I doubt the casino industry was happy with Max telling people to secretly hide chips to make it look like you lost more than you did, or to bet more when the boss is there, and less when they leave. That is hardly what the casinos would have a shill say.

I don't think the casino industry cares if he tells people to hide their chips, as the eye in the sky will see it anyway. Pit bosses may wander from the table, but the Eye never blinks. And whether they hide their chips or not makes no difference in the player's profit or loss (especially when they're hitting hard 17 like one of the players on the show did). It was just one more way the show's producers make the suckers who watch it think they're getting over on the casino while getting sheared.

I know that if I called a Vegas casino and told them I play 100 bucks a hand at blackjack, they sure wouldn't send a limo to pick me up.

I've seen your play... your not that marketable. Keep working at it Pat. It's easy for guys like you to spout off on the internet. Truth be told... I'll save it for another day.

i go by what i see.his system is dumb.he wants people to risk swings of thousands of dollars so they can get a buffet and a room.please...you can buy a very nice room at charlies for 30 bucks a night,and hustle 2 for 1 buffet coupons from magazines and stations casinos books.join every slot club in town and play quarter vp and you will get more coupons than you can spend.you wont get danny ganns tickets,fight tickets or anything of value betting green.anyway,you dont know me.i know all the counters ive met at the tables and your not one of them.

Granted, someone who's just started trying to hide chips might be very obvious, and if so, likely to be detected. But to think that ratholers are absolutely going to get caught by the eye is simply wrong.

I know this is going to come off as bragging or something, but I can only relate my own personal experience on this:
I have been hiding chips for years. While I've had an amateur interest in slight-of-hand since I was a kid, I am certainly no Lance Burton or anything, and I have never once been detected, questioned or even given a second glance about it.

On the contrary, I have accumulated lots of comp points (for a small bettor) at several of the places where I hide chips every time I play, and they consider me a fairly typical BJ player with nothing but losing sessions, (since that's what my player history shows, thanks to ratholing,) and I am very welcome at these places. If they were "on to me", that simply wouldn't be the case.

While I didn't see the show in question, I do personally feel that risking hard earned $ for a few fleeting comps is foolish.
But the reality is that ratholing chips is an invaluable cover tool to a counter, and unlike costly cover plays and/or cover bets, it costs you absolutely nothing.
One's success in ratholing is all in how smoothly (or clumsily) you pull it off.

I think Discovery Channel does a good job of presenting a full picture when they approach a topic. The occasional "card counting is cheating" comment slips in when they interview Andy Anderson, but they've done a good job of presenting advantage gamblers in a good light. For instance, in a memorable episode last year, Stanford Wong played BJ with Olaf Vancura at Sunset Station I believe. Anthony Curtis can also be seen on countless episodes giving sound advice.

I think the Casino Diaries on Max Rubin's protege's was well done, although it might have been a good idea for Max to make a better selection of players. His one player hit a hard 17, while his VP couple left their FP games at the Orleans to play some drastically shortpay versions at the Aladdin.

Discovery Channel feeds my appetite for casino/Las Vegas programming, and they do an accurate enough job that I'm always tuned in whenever one of their programs comes on.

Considering that a small percentage of players who "count cards" end up actually winning at the tables, then Stanford's appearance on that show qualified as "shilling", as the end result is that most people who watched the show went to Las Vagas (thinking they would get "something for nothing") and proceeded to lose money.
