I'm betting 10 bucks and have A,6 against an 8 in the second to last spot and the anchor betting 100 has 12.The next card coming out was a ten for sure.So I could hit getting 17 which does me no good or I could stand,knowing the anchor would stay and hoping the dealer was stiff.Or I could surrender.The anchor then offered me 5 bucks if he won and I didn't by taking the ten.Willi.

with a brain that you're an advantage player.

The dealers down card could be a 10 or an ace.
You should have hit the hand, and let the other ploppy stand on his twelve.
If you won , it was luck thats all.. its the wrong play everytime unless you know that the down card is < 8 and then its only the right play some of the time.
Your negative EV on $10 bet standing on soft 17 was about $4. So, the guy paid you to take your chances. You were about even on the play.
The guy with the $100 bet was smart, by paying you $5 to take the 10, he improved his EV overall by $25.
Not hitting, forcing the other guy to stand, 5/13 of the time the dealer doesn't need the ten because he already has you beat, and 2/13 of the time the 10 would give him 21.
So you got half your money back which was better than the chance you took not hitting, and the guy with the 12 improved his chances enough to justify paying you $5 to do it, so it was a win/win situation.
OOOPS! I re-read your post, and I guess the $5 was if the guy won and you lost. I think doing it the way you did was still better by about $1.25 as opposed to surrender.
First base was empty.I protest the whole situaution and get the floor to admit that "by all means that has to be the next card out of the shoe,no exceptions," in front of everyone.I then check change for table max 2000 and hand the money to the person to the right of me.Tell them put at first.I surrender and go to first hoping that the dealer doesn't need the card and with my hand near the chips in case I have to grab the money back.The rule is the dealer cannot expose the card-it would get burried.However I don't know the rule if the card is exposed because of confusion by the players and not a straight out mistake,ex.S17 with a six up and an ace in the hole, the quick flip.Oooops.These situations happen at least once every 8 hours of play.I know my days would be numbered with such moves.Willi.
In AC, the rule is an exposed card is offered to each player in order around the table, if no one hits, then the dealer uses it. If the dealer doesn't need to hit, then the card is burned. There is no way you will get an exposed card on the next round. (If the pit is aware of the card being exposed.)
In Vegas, they have more leeway, they might offer the card like in the above example, but more often they burn it immediately.
If you know your first card is a 10, you have about a 14% advantage, so go from there ...

We dont know the count, but we do know that the dealer is problably going to make >18 pat hand.
Knowing the next card is a ten does not enter into the mix,
The other player has 12, also does not matter.
He tells you that he will give you 5 if you stand with s17 and not take the 10
so you are betting 15 dollars on the dealer busting with 8 exposed???!
The only way you win the 5 is if the other guy wins..... if you push you tie your bet and the other guy gets beat.. so no 5 for you..
How does not takeing the 10 make it a good bet? His down card could be a 10, you lose.. it could be a three .. then he hits the 10 you lose....
