Dear Webmaster, a request: please drop the top 10 posters...

and publish weekly the top-10-hit posts. The reason for my request is obvious---just take a look the recap down blow. The top 10 poster information is useless to me---i.e., I don't care about this meaningless info: "Clarke Cant 925 4.43% 29 September 02, 12:58 p.m.". However, the proposed weekly top-10-hit posts would be useful for me, i.e., the most-read-post-list would save me a lot of times from digging thru 1,000 posts to find 10 useful posts.

..I disagree with your logic. You are in effect saying the posts with the most hits are the most useful. Often this is NOT the case.

Some of the posts with multiple hits that spawn subsequent long threads in response, are put up by progression advocates or trolls.

You would be better served by reading everything the reliable experts post, such as Bootlegger, DD', bigplayer, SOTSOG, Mathprof to name a few.

...wasn't purpose-built for bj21. Its a generic piece of software used on many websites. The "top 10" is an element of the board thats standard and not particularly appropriate but does no harm.

Probably we could remove that option from all of BJ21's message boards and nobody would notice. If you want to keep it, please speak up.

The original poster wanted the top 10 list replaced with something more useful. In my opinion, the list in its current form doesn't add much value to the site, but removing it is not going to add much value either.

If the choice is either keep it or remove it, then I would say keep it. But given a third option I'd probably choose that instead.

PS I must admit I wasn't even aware of this list until it was pointed out.
