Counting at a single deck table

I have been practicing at the casino and I came across an issue. A lot of times, the players at the table would show me their cards, whether it's intentional or not, and it would throw off the order in which I count other hands. I want to count it so that I can make a better play, but then I have to mentally keep track of who I've already counted and who I haven't. Over time, this could be mentally taxing, especially if there are at least four other players. Should I just ignore it and wait until after the dealer plays or still count the cards?

Thanks. I think the problem is that I don't go at the right time to be able to play with fewer people. When I go, all the tables are packed, so I guess I have to time it a little better when I play.

Where are you finding single deck games that are not 6/5?

Wendover, Nevada has probably some of the best single deck rules I've ever heard of online (and happens to be the closest to SLC, where I live).

Rules:
- Dealer hits soft 17
- Double down on any first two cards
- I believe Re-split aces is okay
- No DAS
- No Surrender

Counting the cards in other players' hands will make very little difference. Even in single deck most of your edge comes from correct betting. I understand wanting to count them and with some practice it's not too difficult to remember which cards you've already seen. It's easier to count the hands you can consistently see such as the player to your right, just keep on your toes about what you have or haven't counted. When the dealer turns over the players hole cards they will usually be the 2 closest to the dealer. It's not going to make much difference so you might only worry about it for close decisions or insurance. Think of it this way, if you do get a glimpse and count them it will make counting the showdown a little easier :-) Also, playing at crowded tables is good for practice because the game is slow, and it might be easier to jump from a minimum to a maximum bet. But with the slow pace and depth of penetration before you make your last bet it can be mostly a waste of time.

Unless things have changed you can find that game in downtown Vegas, except the re-split of Aces. The best single deck games I've seen have double after split and late surrender.

Where on Earth did you find surrender in a single deck game - and was that decades ago ?

There are lots of counter catchers there. Conditions are crowded most of the time. They all share information so if you get heat in one place then you got heat everywhere. Best to leave town.

The dump Alamo in Sparks has surrender on single deck, though the casino is unplayable due to ridiculously low table max and constant shuffling.

Wendover is a magical place. Unless you play like a robot and shove it in their faces, you can play a long time there, even at high stakes. It is different than anyplace in the country. When the backoff does come, sometimes after years of play, it is forever. They never forget, and there is almost no movement in management personnel.

It is possible to find playable conditions for short periods of time almost any time Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Weekdays are tough because many tables are closed.
