Counter hoppers

Something I see on the BJ tables continually in Reno are what I term the 'counter hoppers'. Now I know from all the reading that I've done this is the correct procedure as Negative counts are not in a player's favor.

But it's so obvious to the pit and 'eye in the sky' because it's now the 'counter's vanguard' or winning conservative play that I'm sure the EYE has studied and catalogued too. I mean if you were a dedicated Pit or Eye personell wouldn't you read a few books on your off time to improve your skills and insure that you'd keep your job?

Isn't it better **for camoflodge** purposes to sit through a few negative deals and play rather than change tables or sit out the remainder of the deck?

This kind of response is so blatantly obvious to me that the player is reading Bj data and has to be noticed greater by the industry.

Even a dedicated eye person wouldn't read books on counting for the sole purpose of either improving skills (surveillance wise) or keeping his/her job. They have so many duties as surveillance, tracking counters is 1% or less of the job requirements.

Surveillance have programs to track counters and have many different styles of counting systems programmed into the software, so they don't even need to know how to count. Of course, as far as I know, they only bother tracking someone sitting at one table and not so much table hoppers.

I think you might be keying in too much on what you are doing and not thinking about what all the ploppies are doing. Some guy splits 9's, doubles soft 18, or hits 12 vs dealer 3 and looses and ploppies might get upset and leave. Some other guy looses a few in a row and he changes tables. The relief dealer taps in and another player thinks this dealer is bad luck and leaves. In other words, ploppies table hop all the time. Leaving is easy, the trick is leaving and not going imediately to the next table sometimes.

Unless the casino "knows" you, table hopping is perfect camouflage.

Says a lot. There are places that will nail you very quickly if you pop from table to table all night.

Remember that dealers are often the least educated people in the casino as regards to surveillance and how the casino responds to advantage play.

You are for the most part right, but for the dealers who have had other jobs in the casino, like slots (thats me), cage, even duel rate we work with surveillance every day and make frequent trips to the surveillance room to pick up photos and stuff. In our casino too, the surveillance operators are allowed to socialize with other casino personnel. I know 2 operators at our casino personally outside of work. There's really no secret as to how the surveillance operates. The rule is simple: If you're not going to steal, you have nothing to worry about. If you are going to steal, you'll get caught eventually.

Surveillance isn't worried too much about the table games anyway. They watch seemingly dumb things, like making sure the maintenence guys aren't goofing off, and more important things like looking down women's dresses. Also, lets not forget the pizza parties.

because we KNOW they're hopping on bad counts. If you didn't know the count, it would look like superstitious behavior, and gamblers are certainly known for that!

He claims once employees quit, the info gets out; they DO NOT honor a code of secrecy as I've heard!

What better way to plan your cover than to know the eye's procedures!

Figured I'd scan put the book on the SCANNER and coppy it.

Well....no secrets really. Operators don't need to quit before the secret is out. I think you'll be a little disappointed with the information in the "manual". If it is all that secret, it would not be published in a book that employees would be allowed to take home.
