chances are.....

I was in a bookshop the other day when I came across this book entitled "chances are - a winning blackjack strategy" by Matt Summers (van der plas publications). Never read so much garbage in my life, strategy to stand on 15 against everything - "let the dealer break", never double on 9, double on 10, 11 against 4,5,6 only, only split 7's upwards etc. etc. Who is this guy, a friend of JP's?, claims to have made a living playing bj for 20 or so years.

I like to joke that when I turn 18 I'll take the college tuition funds to Vegas... Seriously, I'll probably never set foot in a casino (I HATE cigarette smoke). I prefer to use my skills in private games with my 'peers'.

My friends prefer Poker (even though they have no clue how to play- draw to inside straights, split trips to go for a 2 card Royal, etc). AT BJ they aren't much better- they will double on hard 20, stand on 12 against a 10, etc. I've taught them Super Pan Nine and Pai Gow Poker also, but we play Draw Poker or Draw Lowball 95% of the time.
