cell phones?!

have any of you guys ever been in a casino that scrambles or jams cell signals!?

Either that, or they simply don't care about the coverage.

On a serious note. Casinos are cheap. I doubt they would spend the money to scramble cell phone signals. I think you are just experiencing a poor signal.

Chris Kelly when i went to Vegas i inadvertently wandered into the sports book area while on my cell and was immediately met by casino personnel...they told me i couldn't be on my phone in that area...which i assume is normal practice but they may have gone another step and scrambled/jammed in the casino you were at.

heres my next question if you still get signal in a casino do they have the authority/right to listen in on your calls? no I'm not a conspiracy nut....just curious!

The FCC strictly prohibits this. If you cannot receive a cell signal in a casino it is more likely due to the concrete and steel re-bar construction blocking the outside signal. Newer cellphones in the digital age use less power to transmit than older analog cellphones and are more likely to be blocked by structures.

A few years ago organized sports betting teams were using mobile phones, beepers, and two way pagers to synchronize bets and gain advanced information on line movements. Casinos got the legislature to pass a law which prohibits the use of these devices in the sportsbook area of casinos.

They can have you arrested if you continue to use your cellphone in the sportsbook, but cannot block the signals per FCC regulations.

It can't be a coincidence.
