After reading through many discussions about signing up for casino's Advantage Club cards, I'm now having second thoughts about if I should have got one or not. If you play quite often, getting comps can be quite nice. However, if having them know your personal info (Upon registering for a card) is too risky for your own playing longevity, I'm starting to regret I ever got one.
Some opinions on this would be appreciated.
If the size of your action is something that will make the pit take note you will get more heat, more barrings, and flyerd around town more if you are not using a players card. It is as much a cover tool as it is for comps. Anyone betting black who refuses a name is an immediate object of suspicion.
If you're betting red chips, you probably won't get much heat anyway, so you may as well take the comps. Most places will give you free dinner for a couple of hours play. Lower end places will likely send you mail offers for free hotel stays during slow months. These perks can dramatically affect the bottom line of a red chip player.
it is a good idea, even for a red chipper, to begin to cultivate different identities. YOu may not jump to high stakes all at once but may gradually increase. By the time you get up to betting green to light black your name could be toast. I agree with taking all the comps you can. The occasional casino that it may cost you is very tiny in comparison to the thousands of dollars in comps you'll get over your career. I was a net loser on my last three week trip. I would hate to have to take expenses into consideration when making travel plans. All meals and rooms are comped and my cash coupons and rebates exceed other travel related expenses. Good comp hustlers should be ahead before they make their first bet.
