Casino cheating

I have played BJ for only 100 hours. I haven't discovered any cheating yet. I know that for licensed casino, there's little to worry about.

But I would like to worry about it from the early stage. :-) (For cheatings such as second dealing, it's really difficult to get the hard evidence, so I assume I would just walk away.) But suppose I suspect the deck composition of a single deck, is it OK to politely ask the dealer that I want to check the cards? Will the casino beat me in the nose when I go to the restroom?

What is the risk vs. benefit here?

The casino will not punch you in the nose, and they also will not comply with your request.

Since time is money, they are not going to stop a game or shut a table down, while you pick thru the cards. Can you imagine a Pit critter explaining to his boss how you managed to run off with a few of the casino's cards without holes drilled thru them?

How about explaining to the auditor why there are cards missing from table #4 second shift deck #23? "Well, this guy thought we were cheating and wanted to look at the cards. The next thing I know, he was gone."

So if suspect something "funny", simply walk away. Plenty of places to gamble, and most are open 24 hrs. a day.

I was playing at a table and the dealer kept fumbling with the cards, a couple hit the floor on his side. I asked the dealer to count the cards and the pit boss looked at me strangely but agreed. the count looked like 51 to me but of course the dealer read it as 52. I left the table and then that same dealer came to my new table, I collected my chips and he said that he didn't blame me for leaving. It could have been superstition on my part but something just didn't feel right so I left.

Of course one may always argue that the casino has too much to lose once caught cheating. It's not worth for them, blah blah. Let's not argue about this because it'll expand for years...

I have played in several casinos (not a whole lot though). At single- or double-deck, they change the cards very often (once every two hours, I believe). And when new decks are opened, the dealer will show you that they are in new deck order, and then the dealer will count them again face down, showing no marks on the back. Then he shuffles. Of course at this moment, nothing is wrong. When the table is empty, the dealer will leave the cards on the table. Now, here comes the chance. If the dealer (or the casino) is vicious, he can do whatever he wants to the cards. That's something I worry about.

So if I ever want to check the cards, I'll wait till the pit boss changes the decks. Then I may politely ask for the dealer to count the old deck(s). I have never done it though. :-) Just a dream.

The Pit should be counting the old cards when they change them already, while the Dealer is checking, washing, and shuffling the new cards.

After all, they want to make sure that none of the players were able to palm off a few cards of the old deck, possibly pulling a switcheroo.

As parnoid as you are about the casino cheating you, the casino is even more parnoid about being cheated by the players.

I WAS PLAYING BILOXI ONE NIGHT. THE COUNT WAS HIGH. I WAS BETTING AT THE UPPER END OF MY BET SPREAD. AFTER WINNING A COUPLE OF THE HIGH END SPREAD BETS THE COUNT WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ONE LAST HIGH BET BEFORE THE RESHUFFLE. TO MY JOY I REC'D 9 & 2, AND PROCEEDED TO DOUBLE DOWN AGAINST THE DEALERS 7.THE NEXT THING THE DEALER DID WAS VERY INTERESTING. INSTEAD OF GIVING ME MY DOUBLE DOWN CARD, HE FLIPPED OVER HIS HOLE CARD SHOWING A 2 AND PROCEED TO HIT IT WITH MY DOUBLE DOWN CARD (A TEN). AND THEN IMMEDIATELY FLIPPED ME AN 8 TO REPLACE MY DOUBLE DOWN CARD. THE DEALER NOW SHOWED 7,2,10. I SHOWED 9,2,8. I TOLD HIM THAT THE TEN WAS MY DOUBLE CARD, BUT HE INSISTED THAT IT WAS HIS. I CALLED OVER THE PIT BOSS AND FINALLY UNDER THREAT OF REVIEWING THE TAPE THE DEALER AGREED THAT HE HAD MADE A "MISTAKE"AND PAID ME. NEEDLESS TO SAY I CASHED OUT AND HAVE NOT BEEN BACK. I DON'T THINK CASINOS NEED TO CHEAT AND THEREFORE ON THE WHOLE THEY DON'T, BUT HAVING SAID THAT, I THINK THAT A CHEATING DEALER WHO IS GOOD AT DEALING 2NDS IS HARD TO SPOT.

not that the casinos will cheat...but that certain dealers will cheat. Cheating is still a possiblity in most jurisdictions when playing handheld games. You should always be alert for the possiblity...although it is highly unlikley.

while playing boston stud poker at the trop in A C ,this is what happened.my bros. bet $5 in bonus $10 in ante $20 & $20 on the whole hand.he pulled 3 5`s on the 3 cards dealt .he turned them over & was paid .the last 2 20$ bets remained.you still have to beat the dealers hand .he pulled the 4th 5.the pitboss & dealer looked at each other. right away i knew they didn`t know what to pay him.i asked for a rulebook & someone from the gaming commission.of course that didn`t happen. they refused to pay him the 100 -1 odds on the remaining 2 20$ bets. he should have won thousands on that hand.they paid him 800$. he had 55$ on the board and 20 &20 was on the whole hand.he didn`t even end up with 20-1 on his investment.hes not the type to make a scene so i just cursed them all out & left.he was certainly robbed,cheated etc.whens the last time anyone who reads this had 4 of a kind in 5 card stud.
