Canfield

Does anyone have a website, email address or snail mail address for Canfield's Expertise company? How good are Canfield's systems? Thanks in advance.

The Canfield Expert system is in his book, "Blackjack Your Way to Riches". It is a good single level count, but requires a side count of aces, which turns some counters away. It has an efficiency a bit higher than hi-lo.

The book offered the Master system for around $200-300 as best I remember. This system is the same as AOII, is a valid, strong, 2 level count, but a rip off at that price.

The book was one of my first reads simply because it was the one my local bookstore happened to have on the shelf, and I had never heard of Wong, Snyder, et al at the time. It is a very interesting read with the sidebars, contains proper basic strategy, a valid system, but does contain the typical poor risk management of most 70's books. The bet sizing/BR advice is a bit risky by most serious players standards of today.

Last I heard, which has been some time ago, Richard Canfield was teaching a BJ school in NV, and it seems it was in Reno.

Suth'n Gent - I very much appreciated your response regarding Canfield's book and system. Many times when I have brought it up on this site I get negative responses. Anyway, I have used his system and BR requirements for 3 years now. I spread 1 to 4, sometimes green, mostly $10 units. I have had FANTASTIC success. And yes, I added the side count of aces 2 years after getting my count perfected.

I read a total of 9 books on BJ, even went to Jerry Patterson's Target 21 school (total joke!). By far, Canfield's system stood out as one of the best.

As far as the BR requirements, everyone comments that Canfield's is not adequate, however, I have never run into any difficulties. As I am sure you are aware, he suggests having 5 equal sessions (24 units per session) for your entire bankroll. Guess that's pretty low by some standards, but you gotta have strict adherance to the 1 to 4 spread.

Any more info you can provide as to how to get intouch with the Canfield school?

I'm not sure why you and others are so interested in contacting him. If you have been playing the expert system with success for 3 years, you certainly don't need to attend a school which I would think would probably be very basic & geared towards beginners. Others wanting this system can get it from his book w/o contacting him. If you are interested in the Master System, get AOII instead which is the same thing at a small fraction of the cost.

Thanks for the address info on Canfield. Only reason I am interested in the school is that I work for an airline, can fly free and just thought it might be fun to check out his BJ school.

The card tags are the same, but the overall strategy probably differs somewhat. But I agree, just get Blackjack for Blood.

I have an old issue of Blackjack Monthly(March 1994) which is published by the Canfield Expert group. Whether this newsletter is still on sale today I'm not sure.

Thing is, although the newsletter claims to be representing Canfield and his contributors(Grinder, Hungry etc) it is written by a guy called Robert Gates, who may or may not be connected to Canfield. The newsletter discusses blackjack topics in much the same way as Blackjack Forum and offers the usual round up of current casino conditions. The final page is an order form for(mostly) products connected with the Expert System(Master System, Experts home video study course, advanced Basic modifications etc).

Near the bottom of the page is the following ad:

'Personal instruction, in-casino evaluations, group lessons and one day mini-courses are taught by Robert Gates. Call for prices and times.'

This info is old and whether Blackjack Monthly is still around I really don't know(call Gamblers Book Club). Whether Gates or his personal courses are worthwhile I don't know either.
