Let's assume H17, RSA. This plays to a 0.15% House Edge off the top.
My understanding is that "House Edge" is not the same as "Average Edge."
The sims I've looked at show this to be a very small negative #, like -0.05% EV. And this # creeps into +$, if the deck Pen is good enough. This is b/c of the gained information of seeing more cards.
Besides deck pen, other considerations would be:
1) Heads-up play VS other players at table
2) Table position. I believe the far left spot would fare better than 1st position, by about +0.10%.
3) One-level count VS multi-level count.]
4) Using a count which divides by denominator of Cards Remaining. The concentration factor changes quickly in Single-Deck.
When you gain information, particularly in Single-Deck, your playing efficiency improves on the 16v10, 12v4, Insurance, etc. The 80/20 rule of thumb I've read says that Net Gain is 80% attritubatable to Bet Ratio changes and 20% to strategy changes.
I don't think I'm crazy to think you can carve out a +$ game on flat-betting SD. Any edge would be small, and you'd have to be betting black chips to make it worthwhile.
