I almost got my butt kicked this morning because I sat on third base and hit a soft eighteen against a four. I had more than two cards (otherwise I would have doubled down).
I know errant third base play helps as much as it hurts (and hitorstand.net tells me to hit those), but is it worth it to hit soft eighteen against a three through six when you can't double down?

When you can't double down a soft 18 vs 4, stand. Only three cards in 13 will improve the hand, while 6 cards in 13 degrade it. When doubling down, you trade that against getting twice the money on the table.
Someone should tell the folks at hitorstand.net, then.
Hit or stand says to double against the 4 ,what they don't say is what to do if the soft 18 consists of more than 2 cards.You would be better served to check out "www.blackjackinfo.com " which explains a little more in detail . In this case it says double a A,7 against a 4 when possible otherwise stand . This is shown in almost all BS charts.

By the way, when I commented on the possbible outcomes of hitting the soft 18, I wasn't suggesting that this was the way to determine the proper play. This comes from comparing the EVs of the available options. These have been calculated already, and the right play was to stand. Hitting is a positive EV move, but it's quite a bit less than standing.
I just checked wizardofodds.com. I can't believe I didn't knos that!

The message says to hit unless 2, 7, 8, and Double 3-6. Its a generalized popup that says what you should do in all cases with the soft 18. The pop up window you have there on your website just isn't specific to your 3 card situation. I guess HitOrStand just assumes 2 card situations on their advice boxes (at least in this case). They probably just assume you would stand hitting up to that total. I can see how its confusing you.
I got that pop up (and that penalty) because I hit the STAND button with my three card soft 18 against the three.

It's been a very long time since I visited hitorstand to take their basic strategy test, but I do seem to recall getting flagged for an incorrect answer by standing with a 3+ card soft 18 against a 3 through 6. This is simply an error in the programming.
