Book Question

How is the author Jerry L. Patterson? I saw a book by him "Blackjack A Winner's Handbook" the other day that I looked through. He had some "interesting" ideas in his book.

More particular he had some 4 step process to a "winning game" that had you deviate a good deal from BS. Additionally, later in his book, he laid out a progressive betting system (and not that 'good' of one) as the way to beat the Auto Shuffler.

Half the time while skimming through the book, (and I apologize for the comment now), I felt Patterson was a Casino employee, and the other half he actually sounded somewhat intelligent. (I like his method for tipping).

I am just interested if he is recommended by anyone, (or to stay away). I have never seen him on any recommend list (such as bj21.com), but would hate to invalidate him completely if there is anything worth reading.

Patterson sells voodoo systems. Stay away from that garbage.

Don't buy any blackjack book that advocates betting progressions. Watch out for code words like "money management."

The best advice is just to read these pages for a while until you start to figure out for yourself who the knowledgable people are.

Several very good books on roulette have been written. Russell Barnhart's "Beating the wheel" is one of the most well-written and informative gambling texts.

Not many good craps books are still in print, but I've flicked through a couple that weren't bad-John Gollehon's and Greg Limes didn't seem bad, concentrating on the math and physical dice control methods.

John Robinson, a regular writer for RGT, writes solid material on slots,regularly debunking myths concerning "hot machines", RNG's and other nonsense, as well as some well-researched material on the history of slots and the true odds of popular progressive machines.

Are there any books on keno?

So far as the Patterson books go, he comes up with the odd interesting idea but its rather difficult for a newcomer to advantage play to separate the useful stuff from the bullshit. Read it after immersing yourself in something like Thorp's Mathematics of Gambling to protect yourself.

Well, I am sure others on this site know more about Jerry than I do, but one thing I can tell you for sure - don't waste your time spedning money on his TARGET 21 System like I did. I even went to his week-end seminar a couple of years ago in Vegas. I spent ALOT of money and time only to FINALLY figure out that the best way to win at BJ is by COUNTING! When asked about that at the week-end workshop, J.Patterson acted like I was a fool for asking!! I must tell you, he's really impatient and get very frustrated with everybody! His big push now is his craps system - holding your arm a certain way for a consistent throw.

My recommendation for a great book/system is Canfield's "Blackjack Your Way to Riches". This is a great read and I have had VERY much success with his "expert" system from the book. Good luck!

Mistakes in Keno payouts have occurred in the past; one keno book I've read (now I regret not purchasing) pointed out several mistakes. Also, within the past 2 years, I have played video keno with an edge due to mistakes in casino promos. You have keep an open mind -- it's been shown even state lotteries can be beaten. Yikes!

We'll all play keno and hope they make enough mistakes so that we all get rich.

to hold my arm when throwing the dice. I figure you can save me the fee of of going to Pattersons class. Also, did he mention anything about how we should keep our feet when putting our arm in that position? I would love to hear this. This is in no way a sleight towards you. I'm just laughing at him and would love to hear in more detail what he told you. You had me laughing here for 5 minutes. Great post.

The Abdul team recorded a -3 SD result so it is questionable whether that situation was in fact positive EV. That is strong (but not conclusive) evidence of cheating.
