Blackjack forum interview question

I read an interview on blackjack forum that said that most of the mit team members that won a lot of money didnt use BS variations aka index numbers. It said that they used the insurance index number and that was all. It also said that they just varied their bets and just played BS. Is this true did they really win all that money and play BJ using just bs and bet variation?

it was a specialized one for counters. (Counter Basic Strategy).

I read the interview and assume these are the questions asked for you to draw your conclusions. Bigplayer is correct, they did modify their basic strategy for BP team play. I suppose that this eliminated the need to telegraph the exact count to the BP.

Here is the crux of the interview involving index numbers:

JC: We found that playing index numbers, in general, hasn�t made a difference. In fact, some of our biggest winners didn�t play index numbers at all.

RWM: Not even insurance?

JC: Well, they knew insurance.

RWM: What about 16 against a 10?

JC: We modified basic strategy just a little bit because they are going to play only positive shoes. They had a +2 basic strategy. People make mistakes when they start dealing with index numbers, and they play slower. It can confuse their count. The guys who won the money weren�t playing the numbers. They were just out there betting it playing basic strategy.

What is counter basic strategy? If there is such a thing where could I find it?

You have to remember that the BP is only called in a positive count, therefore, no need to know or ever use the usual variances from basic strategy in negative counts. An example of what I am calling "BP team basic strategy" would be "always take insurance", since the minimum count that the BP would be signaled to come in and place a bet was always sufficient to require taking of insurance or even money.There would never be a situation to not take insurance. Never played on a team, but this is my understanding.
