Bet Spread question

I used to bet one unit x TC-1 at TC above 0. (ie 2 units for TC=3, 5 units for TC=6, etc). You subtract 1 to account for the .5% casino advantage playing perfect BS.

Which brings to mind the busting at high TC thread below, I was routinely getting clobbered at super-high TCs by betting as I explained above. I now use a bet spread and weather those situations better with less damage.

How is bet spread determined? By the game or BR? I've been using 1-8 for all games.

Stupid question time: With a bet spread you never bet table max, unless your unit x your max spread (and the TC) hits it, correct?

Others can give better answers, but the basic idea you have down right, your bet is big when you have the advantage, and small when you do not. How big is a function of your bankroll and your acceptable risk of ruin.

Where you ramp is important. +1 is about break-even, so ramping up there is going to cause significant variance in your BR. If you ramp too quickly, you will make more money over the long haul, but you run the risk of running out of money quicker (ROR). If you ramp up too slowly, you reduce your ROR, but then you also reduce your profit in good counts.

I generally (in 2D games, start increasing at 2, betting 2 units, and by the time I get to a tc of 4, I am at my max, which is normally 4 units unless something is going on at the table that makes a bigger spread possible...

That's just my approach however. Again, CV Blackjack is pretty good here as you can dial in your betting ramp and play, and let it nag you if you either get the TC (and hence your bet) wrong... It will eventually make your betting almost automatic... Then you can buy in for nickels or quarters and bet 1 at TC <= 1, unconsciously...
